  • VEP server reporting wrong buffer Size for all DAWs tested

My VEP slave template has 1 instance, 23 Threads (out of 24 threads), 48 midi ports, 48 audio outputs, 4 audio inputs.

I set all the DAWs to 128 ms and the VEP pro plug-in within each DAW is set to 1 x buffer:

    - When connecting with DP9, VEP pro 6 server reported a Buffer Size:128, Outputs 48, inputs:32

-When connecting with PT 12.7 HD, VEP pro 6 server reported a Buffer Size:1024, Outputs 48, inputs:32

-When connecting with CB9.0.1, VEP pro 6 server reported Buffer a Size:512, Outputs 48, inputs:32

Any idea why VEP is reading the wrong buffer size for all the DAWs, if i understand correctly, VEP pro 6 server should read 256 ms if the DAWs are set to 128 ms and the plug-ins 1 x buffer as stated above.

  • Hello Anhtu,

The latency read-out you get from the slave depends on the latency inducing plug-ins you have inserted in the VE PRO server (automatic delay compensation on playback).

    Hi Paul,

Are you saying it's the latency of the plug-ins inserted in the VEP pro server ? If so, since i'm testing the exact same template (same plug-ins inserted), logically shouldn't i get the same latency reading with all DAWs ?

or are you implying the latency of the VEP plug-ins inserted in the DAW ? If that's the case then on the channel where i got VEP inserted in PT, it shows a delay compensation of 128 samples and not 1024, the reading i get from VEP server.

  • Hello Anhtu,

I'm referring to the plug-ins inserted in the VE PRO Server.
I´ll check that tomorrow.  Does it affect your workflow in any way?

I'm evaluating different DAWs and updating our studio for a few big upcoming projects, hence the questions above. To be honest, when i connect to the same VEP template, even though it reported different latency for different DAWs, it ''feels'' pretty well the same to me.

  • The buffer size reported in the VE Pro Server is the maximum buffer size set by the host. In practice, modern hosts can set a higher buffer size, but actually process in smaller sizes when real-time response is desired. So you indeed shouldn't feel a difference in terms of latency.
