  • Convert files to use in a keyboard?

Hi, first post here. Hope I am in the right place. I have a hardware sampler (Kurzweil PC3K), and I play live theater shows. I LOVE the sound libraries here and was wondering if it is possible to convert them to .wav files for use in my keyboard. If so I am buying a bunch! (I don't trust software in live situations so that's out for me).

  • Unfortunately that would be illegal. Sorry not to have better news.

  • Bummer! Wonder why they don't let us use them live in hardware? Thanks for the reply.

What kind of files are the recorders here? https://www.vsl.co.at/en/Additional_Winds_Bundle/Recorders#!System_Requirements

I might consider running a software host for them with a different backup hardware patch on my keys just in case the software craps out live...

Can I run them in Mainstage?

    Hi PianoPete,

Of course you can use Vienna Instruments in MainStage, that's also what I would suggest (you can also use any other host software you like on your Mac).

Remember that you will need a ViennaKey to store your licenses on. Alternatively, you can also use a Steinberg or Arturia Key, if you have one or can get one faster (they are usually available in music stores, and it´s the same copy protection system, "eLicenser").

So can these libraries be played live? Can they be performed as nuanced and expressively as in the demos on the website? Or are they really more suitable for DAW and recording work? I am specifically looking at the recorders.

  • Hi,

I think it's close to impossible to reach the same level of detail when playing live, in comparison to a balanced editing process in the safety of your studio, but you can certainly take the place of any section or player live, and convincingly.

  • Thank you. I purchased a Recorders. Took a while to get started but they sound great! They will do fine for live playing.
