  • VIFrames not working in Cubase

Ok, so I'm at my witts end with VEP5 and VIP 2 and Jazz Drums.  I have tried for COUNTLESS hours to get this to work and it won't. i have read all manuals for these three products maybe 10 times each and followed the instructions over and over and to no avail.  It just doesn't work.  I'v owned Jazz Drums for over 4 years and the software has NEVER worked as outlined in the manuals.

I am using VEP5 and VIP 2 on the same Mac computer NOT as a master slave computer situation!

    Here is my set up...

Mac Pro (2015) 16 gig of ram

    Cubase 8.5

    Vienna Ensemble Pro 5

    Vienna Instruments Pro2

    Steinberg MR816csx firewire audio interface

Vienna Instruments Jazz Drums, Epic Orchestra, Flute

So, I don't have any problem connecting the 64 bit server to the 64 bit server interface, all of that works just fine and always has my problem comes in trying to load the VIFrame files and have them actually produce ANY sound in VEP5!

I do as the maual says..

    Start VEP5 server

    Start Cubase

Instantiate VEP5 as virtual instrument in the rack

Connect VEP5 to the 64 bit server and make sure the connection is working

In the VEP5 plugin Go to file, open and load load the viFrame file "03_Jazz_Drums_Full_Set_VI5.viframe"

( I also tried to load the same file from the VIFrames for Classic VI as well)

And when the file opens I am left with all of the drums lined up in separate channesl just like you would expect but VIENNA INSTRUMENTS PRO 2 DOES NOT LOAD.  So I have a bunch of channels with no samples loaded and nothing to play.

    THEN!!!

If go down to the very bottom left corner of VEP5 and click on the little "cube" icon which adds a NEW VIP2 channel it will create a new instument channel strip and I can load the jazz drums.

BUT, there is no way to get the viframe channel strips to "talk" to the VIP2 jazz drums channel strip that I just made???

It also does not matter if I proceed by first loading the VIP2 jazz drum channel strip in VEP5 and THEN try to load the viframe referenced above because when I do a dialog box comes up and asks "if I want to "save changes to the current project" and when I click "no" because why would I want to save project that can make no sound??? your software just loads a new VIP2 channel strip that will let me load the Jazz drums that still has NOTHING to do with a viframe file of any kind.

In a nutshell there is just no way to get the jazz drums to be load when loading a viframe file.  they have no connection to each other...

completely lost and have spent DAYS trying to get it to work.

any ideas?  cause I have absolutly no idea how to proceed

    Thanks

    Wade Pugsley

  • Well

Try to take a screenshot of the plug-in in VEPro, then I can take a look and see if everything looks like it use to in my studio. Do you get MIDI-in from Cubase? Is the output of the instrument channel assigned to busses or the master?

Forgive me for asking, I don't know how much you have worked with the setup, maybe it's a littel "dum" thing?

Are the samples loaded - in other word the cell are not red?
