    Hi everyone,

    Can someone explain to me what the goniometer does, how to use it, and where to put it in the signal chain?

    Well I use the goniometer to get a "birds eye view," if you will, of the stereo image of the track. Basically it gives me an idea of the "stereo-ness" of the track and if I need to make adjustments as sometimes it's hard to hear these things. I use it in conjunction with the analyzer. Once everything is balanced I delete them from the chain. But I'm sure Dietz will give you a better explanation.

    So you use this on an individual instrument track or jus the master or both?  Also, how do you go about correcting problems?  Is it a simple matter of adusting the pan for a certian track or is it more involved?

    Yes. Generally I use it in the last step in mixing. If there are any corrections that need to be made, I'll nudge the audio tracks here and there but if you have your templates set up properly then there really isn't much nudging to do. Of course I'm referring to orchestral music. I use the goniometer a lot more for Pop and rock tracks especially on drums.
