  • MainStage CPU Getting Hammered by VEP6

MainStage 3.2.4, VEP Server 6 (32 bit), one single VEP plugin instantiated @ 4 buffers, 2 threads per instance in the server.  In the Server, one NI B4II plugin instantiated.

Idling, the VEP6 instance in MS is using around 60% of my CPU.

With the VEP6 instance bypassed, the MS concert CPU usage drops to 10%.

Under VEP5, the MS instance uses maybe 5% CPU.

    This can't be right.

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • I continue to be totally stumped by this issue, and have had to revert to VEP5.

I have attached a screenshot of a MainStage concert with a single unconnected instance of the VEP6 plugin.

Note the CPU usage.  With the VEP plugin bypassed, CPU usage is zero.

    MainStage 3.3, VEP 6.0.15864. macOS 10.12.5 Beta (16F67a).

  • Does the same thing happen in Logic?

  • Hi vienna_3298,

Would you please send a zipped copy of this MainStage concert to support@vsl.co.at, so we can have a look at it?

    Best, Marnix

  • Curiously, it does not seem to occur in Logic Pro 10.3.1.

    Done.

  • I stopped using NI products because the GUI's freeze in Cubase 9.

I feel it goes without saying that for a company (Native Instruments) who has never released a VST3 version, I'd be very suspicious of the codebase but of course this may be speculation however unfortunate the situation is, as other manufacturers such as Uaudio have not given me this issue but I am yet to test powered plugins in VEP.
