  • VEP memory usage with all samples purged

How does OSX/VEP handle memory when all samples are purged in Kontakt?

My entire template is purged but VEP 5 is still showing 14GB memory used.

  • It seems some sample library patches have a heavy memory footprint even with all samples purged.

    Memory release still seems odd

VEP 5 Server uses about 30mb
    One instance adds about 5-10mb
    One Kontakt adds about 100mb

Deleting the Kontakt ch only returns around 50mb

Adding a Spitfire Albion patch (samples purged) adds around 100mb
Deleting the patch only returns around 50mb of used memory again.

I'm guessing memory usage is not so clear cut as 'use this amount, return same' when displayed in Activity monitor.

  • I am experiencing this exact same issue with VEP6 server!! All instruments are purged and VE Pro Server is still taking up 23.3GB (minus what ever the OS is using to run, which is about 4GB).

Why is VE Pro Server Taking up so much memorry? Is this normal? Is there a work around? Does this mean that if I load 20GB worth of samples, I will need to have 40GB of RAM to run it?

Vienna Ensemble Pro Server v6.0.16778 (64 bit), Kontact V5.7.3

    Best,

Bump. Having the same issue. In Kontakt stand-alone, I can open a multi of the same instrument without it affecting my memory footprint other than for the first loaded instrument. But if I load a multi of the same instrument in VE Pro7, It allocates memory for every single loaded instrument; even if they are the same. I've tried on my host maschine and 2 different slaves with the same results; VEPro7 allocates RAM for all instruments loaded, even if they are the same.

  • Bump. Same issue here. Anybody...? Bueller...?

  • I'm having the same issues. My VePro project has all samples purged, but it still takes up 32Gb

    Anyone have a solution?

Can you load multiple Kontakt instances inside of Kontakt Standalone?

To my knowledge, Kontakt does not share sample memory between instances. Synchron Player and Vienna Instruments do.

How many instances of Kontakt are you using?

Is the situation different when hosting Kontakt in another host?
