  • Question for Logic Users

Do other Logic users do one VI per VEP window? I've experimented with one orchestra section per instance and one instrument per instance. CPU seems a lot better with a section setup and 4-5 vep windows per computer. But, having each instrument feed back to it's channel is really nice for mixing and automation in the logic arrangement window. How are other people doing it?

  • For the reason you mentioned, I have switched to using one instrument per instance. You end up with a lot of instances, but I like having control over ever track separately. I honestly don't know if there's a difference in CPU and RAM perforance, but I'd like to hear from other users on this.

  • Hi,

I think you are referring to Vienna Ensemble (non-PRO), is that correct?

VE is definitely designed to host more than one VI. If you don't need Vienna Ensemble as a host for multiple instruments, I'd insert Vienna Instruments directly in the host.

  • Ski (from logicprohelp forum) said that it doesn't make a difference in terms of CPU performance (I think either he or Jay Asher have run tests...I haven't but I don't notice a difference in performance). I've been doing it this way for a while and it works.

  • If you use VI into a VE, if you use the same instrument ex : Violin 1 and Voilin 2 I was told that they share some of the samples, so you gain in memory.

With VI in Logic you may have overload problems as Logic is not sharing very well it's processors

It will also depends of your disks, number of proc, speed of your memory, your pre-load buffers...........

The best is you do a test with your configuration
