  • Themes Parked and Trailers Trashed

    Dear all,

My first posting of music on the VSL boards - done with some anxiety given the wealth of talent demonstrated here.

Anyway, at the link is a set of 18 short pieces (around two minutes or so each) composed largely with VSL SE (there is a little full library orchestral strings on one or two of the pieces composed later) over a period of about 18 months. Note that three tracks were written with another earlier, more primitive (cheaper!) library that I bought before I saw the light with VSL.

The styles vary quite a bit, so I hope there is something to like...

    cheers

    Alan

  • Hi Alan,

So far I've listened to a few of your 'trailers' and there is absolutely no reason to be anxious. The pieces sound very good and show great inspiration. From the technical point of view, there is always room for improvement. Everybody has to pay learning money... The only advice is to listen to many good ensembles playing the kind of music you have in mind and compare them to your realisations. The closer you come, the more your mission is successful. You've proven that you handle pretty well the VSL instruments.

    Please go on!

    Max

  • Dear Max,

Thank you for your kind words - they give me hope!

Thank you too for the advice. I completely agree about the learning process. I have probably learnt far more about music and its production - harmony, voice leading, mixing, etc. - in the last two years than I did in the previous 20. I try not to consider it unfortunate that all of my new knowledge has ended up making me realise the scale of my previous ignorance since, in reality, it is a joy because there is still so much to learn.

    cheers

    Alan
