  • Anyone running Windows on a Mac slave to run VEPRO?

    Hi,

I have seen a lot of threads about what to use as a slave for VEPRO. I am running Pro Tools 11 on a 2008 Mac Pro with OS 10.9 & 24GB of RAM. I currently run VEPRO 5 on the same machine & am going to set up a slave PC to run all of my V.I.s. I use maily Kontakt (Komplete), Omnisphere, and many drum V.I.s such as SD, and BFD.

I have the opportunity to aquire a 2009 Quad Core Mac Pro with 32GB of RAM for next to nothing.

My question is if anyone has had any experience running VEPRO under Windows (7 preferably) on a Mac slave? I will have the ability to have a separate drive to boot Windows from. Do you think this system would work well, or should I just buy / build a Windows machine strictly for running VEPRO 6 and the V.I.s?

I appreciate any and all advice or comments.

    Thanks,

    George

  • Yes I have 3 quad core mac minis running windows 7. Have worked flawlessly for many years. VEPro works better than it does on OS X.

    Hi bobulusbillman,

Thanks for the reply. Do you run Windows from separate drives connected to those machines via Bootcamp?

    Thanks!

    George

  • No I run bootcamp off the SSD in the mac. Partitioned the boot drive using bootcamp

    Hi bobulusbillman,

That's interesting. So it sounds like if I run Windows 7 from bootcamp, and the libraies off of an SSD or 2 that it would work well. Are your Mac Minis the latest Intel, or the older Core 2 Duo models?

    Thanks again,

    George

  • 2012 quad core i7s at 2.6ghz.

  • Thanks again. I am torn between going with that 2009 Mac, or another option for me is a 2011 HP Z600, 12 Core Windows 7 machine with 24GB of RAM. I'm not familiar with the HP's, but wonder if the increased processing will make a difference? It's sure a smaller & lighter machine to have rather than another monster Mac Pro.........

  • Get the HP

    Hi bobulusbillman,

Get the HP based on there being more processing power than the Mac?

Thanks agagin for all of your advice!
