  • Synchron Percussion Mic Outputs

Have asked about htis a long time ago, but seems to apply even more now to the new Synchron Percussion library.  I just downloaded and installed the Synchron Timpani library. It sounds very good, however, using the multiple microphone configuration in the Vienna Instruments Pro software is a problem, since there seems to be no way to route individual microphones to different tracks or outputs for processing. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the only way it seems that you could do this using Vienna ensemble Pro is to load up a separate instance of Vienna Instrument for every single mircophone of every single instrument. I understand that this wasn't necessarily an issue with the older libraries since all sounds were recorded dry, with no microphone variations. But when having these extra microphones at your disposal, having to load each one up separately is a real pain, especially if you needed to edit their paraemeters. At this point, it seems the only thing that makes sense is if the Instruments Pro software was updated to work as a true multi-tinral instrument such as Kontakt, this way you ccan route the microphone positions to any where you want to. Hopefully, there are plans for this in the future. If there are any current work arounds to this issue, I would appreciate the information.

    Hi Kevin,

Please use the Vienna Ensemble Presets we provided for all configurations, available in your Library Downloads (with a big orange SY-EXTRA sign).

Alternatively, you can also load the provided STEREO-MIX Presets that are available for each instrument, using the internal slot mixer in VI.

I have shown the setup in our videos on the product page.
Please let me know if any questions pop up.

    Best,
    Paul

  • I must be missing somthing here. Yes, I watched all videos and downloaded the templates. The Vienna Ensemble templates are a bunch of blank channels as far as I can see, one created for each microphone. However, as far as I know, Vienna Instrument Pro has never been multi-timbral. Thus if you were to load up the 'Stereo Mix' preset with all avaibale mics, there would be still no way to route each mirophone to it's own separate output/channel and hear them all at once. Unless something in the software has changed over the years since I started using it. The video shows the percussion instruments playing through the mic channels that were setup in the downloaded template. But how do you actually route each mic from a single instance of Vienna Instrument Pro to their own separate channel without loading each mic individually. It seems that each microphoen would be treated as its own individual mon-timbral instrument. It's a similar situation to waht I was trying to do with the Dimension Brass auto-divisi patch a few years ago, by routing each instrument fro the single instance to its own separate channel. I was told it couldn;t be done because Vienna Instrument pro is mono-timbral. As I mentioned, if something has changed since then, I would be interested in finding out about it.

  • If I understood correctly, what you want to do should be possible. In Cubase you can assign the number of outputs of an insert (VE Pro in this case). Instead of the standard two outputs, assign six outputs to VE Pro. In VE Pro you can then route the close mic to outputs 1 and 2, the mid mic to 3 and 4, and the tree to 5 and 6. The important part is that you have to assign the number of outputs you need for VE Pro in your DAW.

  • Hello Kevin,

Sorry if I was not clear.

You have 2 options at this point:

    A) Use the integrated Stereo-Mix Presets, with one Stereo Output, and the synchronized internal slot mixer (this is a feature that has been added).

    B) Use the multi-channel setup presets for VE / VE PRO for separate processing of all mic channels.

  • Regarding Dominique's answer about routing multiple outputs through Cubase, I am well aware of this and have been bouncing multiple outputs from VEPro to Cubase for years. And Paul's initial response was also very clear as to the current two options. I think the problem is that neither option actually allows for hwo I was trying to send the mic outs. I think the key is as Paul said, if you use the integrated stereo-mix presets in Vienna Instrument Pro, you have "One Stereo-Output" only since it is mono-timbral by design. You can only mix the individual mics using the internal slot mixer, but would not be able to send, say each mic to a separate bounced track in Cubase simultaneously. This is something I do with Kontakt libraies in VEPro all the time.

Regarding the multi-channel setup presets, I think that's where I'm missing something after watching the videos. These pre-made channels seem to be actually instrument channels, however, still using VEPro 5 (due to csome technical issues), I have never actually seen an option for creating a so-called "instrument channel". Bus channels, plugin channels, etc., but not an instrument channel. It also seems that VEPro 6 introduced the "Unified Channel" which I have yet to try out. Maybe this haas something to do with the use of the new templates?

  • Hello Kevin,

The VE templates work fine in VE PRO 5 as well...

Can you please send me screenshots of what you see and explain once again what's confusing for you or what doesn't work when you load those VE presets?
