  • Clarinet 2 low volume

    Hi,

I'm comparing Clarinet 1 (from the SE edition) with Clarinet 2 (full), and I find the second one has an extremely lower volume (about 12dB less).

I could balance it with the other instruments with the relative level control next to the matrix name, in the upper-right area of the player’s window.

However, is there a reason because this particular instrument was set to such a low volume by default?

  • I have had the same problem with Clarinet 1 (full) and Clarinet 2 (full).

  • That's interesting! The SE version of Clarinet 1 doesn't seem to have the same issue, or at least not at that extent. I would really be curious to understand why this difference in levels.

  • Hi Paolo,

The recording and editing process has evolved over the years, and the "natural volume" feature was also created to help with the resulting slight differences in volume.

  • Hi Paul,

In addition to volumes, is this also the case for the velocity curves of each instrument?

It seems to be the case, and I've tried matching the curves with each other in the event I want to copy/paste a unison passage, or copy/paste a performance and edit pitch of each note for harmony, but there seems to be a lot of variation between volumes/curves from note to note.

Do you have a recommended workaround for this?

  • Hello Stephen,

I'm afraid I can't offer a workaround there, the newer instruments will react slightly different.

    Best,
    Paul
