  • To TEC Breath Controller Users With VE, VI Pro

I bought the original TEC Breath Controller a couple of years ago, and using it never "took." So I set it aside unused. I'm now trying to get it set up to work with VE Pro (I'm using Standalone for setup purposes), and something's not right.

The TEC is installed with it's software, which responds to input. Using MIDI Ox (a MIDI monitoring utility) I have confirmed the computer is responding to the TEC and outputting to MIDI CC-2.

In VE Pro Preferences under the MIDI tab the TEC is selected. I select a VE Pro channel that has a VI Pro instrument assignment. VI Pro responds to my keyboard input. I set up VI Pro with Velocity Crossfade turned on and assigned to MIDI CC-2.

But VI Pro does not respond to the breath controller input. As far as I can tell, it should, but it doesn't.

Those of you using TEC successfully in this environment, is there anything I'm missing, or are there any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot this?

  • I'm no VE pro user and maybe I'm completely off here, but isn't your DAW Cubase, so it should be activated there? At least in my setup, nothing's working unless activated in Cubase.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I tested it in VE Pro Standalone, and after my initial post I tried it as a Cubase plugin using VE Pro Server. Cubase responds to the all MIDI, including the TEC, VE Pro is not responding at all, so I think I've isolated the problem to incoming MIDI communication to VE Pro.

That's what I had thought the problem would be. Need to do some more checking to isolate why no MIDI is passing through, because this is not normal. I had just updated to the most recent versions of all VSL software.

Oh, and I did check Cubase's MIDI setup to ensure that TEC was showing there. It was.

    Thanks again.
