  • Which is the best configuration given what I have

    Hello

This is a well worn question but quite limited so perhaps there is a simple response...

I don't want to upgrade my computers until the new iMacs come on sale so I'm making do with what I have.  I am about to start using VEP, which I haven't tried yet, but I'm not sure which of my two computers I should use as the slave/master.  I'd be interested to hear thoughts from some experts :)

    Computer 1

    • Early 2008 MAC Pro - 2 x 2.8ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon
    • 18 GB RAM (could be expanded into 32)
    • 5 internal SATA HDD's, all quite old. Currently running samples, OS, Back ups etc. Could be converted into SSD Drives.
    • OS 10.9.5 (I don't think I can upgrade the OS on this computer)

    Computer 2

    • 2011 Macbook Pro 2.7ghz Intel Core i7
    • 16GB RAM (maxed out)
    • 2 x internal 1TB drives.  One of them is a SATA (running OS Sierra) and the other is a Samsung EVO SSD drive (running samples)
    • OS 10.12.4

My initial thoughts are that Computer 1 should be the slave (running VEP and all samples) and Computer 2 the Master (running my DAW).  If it makes a difference I'm running Logic X with UAD Apollo.

Any thoughts greatfully recieved. Thank you!
