  • VEP 6 Crashing

Hi, I made a template for my laptop to have a portable sysmtem and VEP 6 keeps crashing now. VEP is the latest version and I have the latest version of OSX on my MacBook Pro. I'm using the latest Cubase, but that shouldn't matter because it won't open by itself. I'm using the 64 bit server version. What is weird is that the file icons are generic looking. I'm not at home at the moment, but I'm pretty sure the icons should have a graphic like most file icons. Thanks for any suggestions, Everything works well on my main system at home, but that's a Windows slave. Aaron Edit: VEP 6 starts to load and crashes in a few seconds. The first instance is OT Berlin Woodwinds. Also, I have a 3 month old MBP with 16 GB or RAM.

  • +1 here, too. Also, patches are not loading (library is red and I can't change the read/write folder.)

  • James,

Do you also have generic file icons?  On my PC slave the icons have the VSL logo, but on the Mac they are just plain file icons.

Here is what the file looks like.

  • Hi,

I am looking into the troubles with Orchestral Tools right now.

The icons will be fixed with the next available update of VE PRO, thanks for pointing that out.

  • Paul,

Thanks for looking into this.  So you think it's OT?

  • Hi,

Can't say for sure yet, but I hope I'll find out more soon (still downloading the library).

  • Paul,

Have you made any progress on this?

    Thanks,

    Aaron

  • James, did you ever find a fix?  I still can't load my template and haven't heard anything yet.

  • Hi Aaron,

Sorry that this is taking so long, I'm downloading OT libraries one by one.

I suspect that the scripted programs in Kontakt cause those crashes, but have not confirmed it yet.

  • Hi Paul, Thanks for the update. Aaron

  • Hi,

We have been looking into some crash logs with these big setups...

There were many many threads assigned, and the hard limit for threads on a Mac is 2048...

To limit the used threads, it will be good to reduce the number of assigned threads per instance (in the VE PRO Preferences), and ideally switch off Multithread support in Kontakt.

BTW: Thread management on Windows is more efficient (and threads are not limited), so that might also be worth a thought for those very big setups.

    Paul

  • Hi Paul, I'll try out your suggestions on my MacBook Pro. It's a pretty small template so I can work away from my studio. I do have a slave PC with a very big template and rarely have problems with that one. I have 1200+ tracks on the big template. Thanks and I'll report back. Aaron

  • I just discovered that if I open the standalone version of Kontakt first and then open my VEP template it doesn't crash.  I tried it several times with the same result.  Everytime I open my template without first opening up the standalone Kontakt, VEP crashes.

And once my template is open, if I quite the standalone Kontakt, VEP crashes. Very strange.
