  • VE Pro 6 - important setup questions

Hi there! I've finally got myself VE Pro 6 (yay!) and managed to install and address it from within Cubase. I did that by setting up the server application and then choosing VE Pro as a rack instrument which opened an instance (I use it only on one PC, no LAN connections). I hope that's correct so far. Now I have some - again very basic - questions that aren't explained in the manual or in the videos (at least not in a way that I understand). Maybe someone can help me out.

I pose my question by stating what I'd like to happen:

    1. I'd like to have all my Vienna instruments (which so far have been 5 instances of VE á 16 instruments) at hand and I'd like for them to be able to share effects and group channels. So far I have only been able to import my old viframe-projects as separate instances. As far as I understand it, there is no way channels can use effects or groups across different instances, or is there? If not, I might need one instance to run 80 channels. Is that even possible or am I completely off here?

    2. I'd like to use the Vienna Suite convolution reverb and equalizer that I've used in VE. So far I haven't been able to find my Vienna Suite plugins in VE Pro. Any idea why that might be and what can I do about it? They have always worked just fine with VE.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Hi quiloy,

    1) Insert VE PRO as a VST3 plug-in. This way you can use multiple MIDI PORTS (up to 48x16 MIDI Channels) with each instance, settings are available in the VE PRO Preferences.

    2) Did you assign the correct VST plug-in folders in the VE PRO Preferences? You need to do that to link VE PRO to the right plug-in files.

  • Thanks Paul for replying so late in the evening, that really helped me one step further. Obviously I have some trouble finding the right plug-ins. I just realized that the VST3 plugins are labelled "[PlugIn Name]" in Cubase, whereas the 64-bit version is labelled "[Plugin Name] x64". This had me assume that I had to use the x64-version, but in the plugin detail page of Cubase I discovered that the not-x64 are in fact 64-bit (according to filename) and those are the VST3 plugins that I couldn't identify at first. This is all very confusing.

At least I found the Vienna Suite plugins and now I'm off to trying loading the VST3 plugins. Thanks a lot!

Thanks again for the advice. My new setup is already up and running. Nevertheless, could someone please answer this particular question?

  • Hi again,

There is no way channels can use effects or groups across different instances => hence the hint to use less instances with VST3.
