  • VEP Rack Instrument Output Names

Is there a way to keep the names from resetting to Out 1/2, Out 3/4, etc when ever I activate more output channels in a VEP rack instrument?

I spend a long time naming things, and then go to open up more outputs and it wipes all the VST outputs back to default names in my Cubase project.

I suppose I can just activate all outputs and then hide them in the project, but maybe someone can tell me a better way?

    Thanks

    Once again...crickets.

That kinda defeats the purpose of a forum. 😕

At this point...even the crickets stopped chirping.🤐

I guess I am the only one who ever ran in to this.

  • Hi Synetos,

Sorry for the delay, we were also waiting for other users to come up with ideas there.

I'm afraid this has to with how Cubase is handling the VST outputs (reset after every change).

Did you contact my colleagues at Steinberg about this yet?

  • Thanks for responding, Paul. No, I didnt contact Steinberg. I created a work around, or basically changed my workflow.

    • I created VST Connection (Outputs) in Cubase that are not assigned to any physical interface output.
    • I created a matching "virtual" output for each VEP Output, and then route the VEP outputs to those "virtual" outputs and hide them from view.
    • Then I assign that virtual output as the input to analog tracks, as needed.

Now I do not care what they are called. The analog track has the name I want. I just hide what I am not using.

Yes, it is way more tracks and setup work for my initial template, but it also allows me to record the VST instruments to analog and mix/process offline. In a way, this is a cleaner and better approach for my workflow.

  • Hi Synetos,

Good to hear that you found a work-around there, and thanks for sharing it!

I also checked with our developers, and we are not aware of a way to save the output names with a plug-in. The same happens with Kontakt, so this fix would be in Steinberg's hand, as we see it.
