  • What is the most common panning everyone uses for their templates

    Hey guys,

I just bought the vienna symphonic cube and apassionata strings. I am having a tough time in balancing the template and balancing the panning of the orchestra, my template is becoming a bit heavy on the left side mostly due to the panning of Appasionata Violins to the left, but reducing the gain makes it unbalanced WRT the volume balance. I have been going through all the online resources etc(including Beat Kauffman), but I hope to get some guidance on this topic and what are the general practices that all of you guys are taking for getting that balance.

Any knowledge share would be greatly apppreciated! :)

  • Try the German seating where 2nd Viloins are panned oppisite the 1st.  There are variations on this seating arrangement but that's the main difference.

    Hi neelmusic11

I have no fix templates. One which shows the German seating - as Jasensmith mentioned - you can see here:

It leads to a nice Stereo impression. If you are composing your own music you are free as well to place the instruments to your taste... 😉

I wish you a lot of success.

  • Without trying to sound like too much of an advert for vsl... This is why I love mixing with Mir Pro! Especially with the Mir X mode. Seriously the sound is so good. Panning, balance, even position is worked out and I find It far easier to balance and tweak levels after these basics have been established so I can concentrate on the important stuff - writing the music! Synchron Stage Mir is next on my buy list. Looking forward to the Mir X extensions when the guys get a chance :P Seriously, download the Mir demo and try it. You'll see what I mean. Maybe try a Mir X extension in VIPro as well....these are good value and do a similar job. If you're only using VSL and not other sample libraries this is a good way to go.
