  • Finale Version 25 and VSL audio export

I wrote about this some time ago but turns out the problem might lie with Vienna Ensemble Pro 6.

I'm using Finale Version 25, Ensemble Pro 6, Instruments Pro 2, Imperial, and Suite Pro. For all the works I write I like to export the audio so I can put it on soundcloud and YouTube; however, the audio isn't clean. I get these skips, the kind you hear when you put a dirty CD into a CD player. I checked with the developers of Finale and they said there are no skips when using their Garritan sounds, so they widdled the problem down to VSL (took them almost a year). I really need clean audio files soon and I'm really at a loss, I can't just lug a gigantic iMac (2013 version) wherever I go because that would be silly. Is there a way to remedy this situation?

  • Hello WJT!

Please update all involved software to the latest version (Finale 25.4, VE Pro, VI Pro, Vienna Suite Pro, Vienna Imperial).

If this doesn't resolve the problem, please include information about your system (OS, CPU, RAM). Is the audio output clean during playback?

  • While I'm checking, I'll just provide some of the COM stats.

    -8GB RAM 1600 MHz DDR3

    -OS Sierra 10.12.8

    -Processor: 2.9Ghz Intel Core i5

  • During playback the audio is just fine, the CPU usage percentage for the programs is around 56% for Ensemble Pro 6 and 1.9% for Finale. I downloaded all the latest updates and I still am getting these skips. Again I checked with the developers at MakeMusic for Finale and they said it's not Finale that's causing the trouble but rather Vienna Ensemble Pro.

  • Hi,

Andreas is currently not available, but we will look into it asap.

Finale would be the only host with such troubles, but we will see what we can do!

    Thanks for your patience.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Illuminatus,

This might also be a streaming problem - from what kind of disc are you streaming your samples from? And since you seem to be using VI Pro as well, is it possible that you have considerably lowered the Preload Size in Directory Manager?

Also, does it make a difference if you raise the buffer multiplier in the VE Pro Server Interface plug-in(s)?

    Best, Marnix

  • Marnix, I'm streaming from Macintosh HD

  • Hello Illuminatus!

We can reproduce an audio export problem with Finale 25.4 and Vienna Ensemble (Pro) on Mac here. This problem doesn't seem to occur on Windows computers. We made the following observations.

    - Raising the buffer size of the audio driver helps a bit.
    - Raising the number of buffers in the VE Pro Server Interface plugin helps a bit.
    - The problem seems to be CPU related.
    - It seems that for some reason Finale doesn't give VE Pro enough time to render the audio material.

Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you. So for the moment it probably is best to record the audio output with a 3rd party software. I have already contacted the MakeMusic team about this problem. As far as I can see this is not in our hands, but in the hands of MakeMusic.

    Best regards,
    Andi
