  • legato violin performance tool question

    Hello everyone,

I have been using the first edition quite happily for nearly two years now. So last week I thought I'd buy a copy of solo strings.

When I load the solo violin piano legato sound VI_perf-leg_p it doesn't seem to work quite how I would like it.

When you hold a single note down, no sound is heard, but if I play a legato passage, ie play another note before letting go of the first, I get the sound I am expecting. This doesn't seem to be an issue with the cello sounds (those that I have tried)

I know the first question will be about my settings on the legato tool, so let me just say that I am using version 1.1 of the tool. Yes, ver 1.1!!!
I like it, its great, and its done the biz for me for some time now.

I am a little worried about down loading a new version because
    a) I tried it once, and all my settings went hay wire!
    b) I have heard that there is a time bomb in one version (not sure if thats true) but I really don't want the hassle of sorting this stuff out mid project!
    c) I like what I know and Know what I like!!

The Horizon solo strings manual refers to 'Horizon legato'. Is this a setting (that I don't have) or a tool that I need? Can I work with this version of the tool?

Thanks for your attention as ever.

    steve

PS Thank you to the support dept for letting me know that you have to switch of you virus software to install this stuff. The first edition came without self extraction so I wasn't an issuse. Ta

When you load the pal file make sure that it is in hor-legato not legato mode.

  • Hi Steve,

this is your first Horizon Series product, so you need to activate the HOR-Legato to control the Horizon Performance Legato (it has a new mapping scheme).

You have already successfully registered it!

The next step is to go trough the "activation" routine of the Performance Tool to activate the HORizon-Legato in your Performance Tool:

    - Open the "File" menu of your Performanve Tool and choose "Activation". An activation guide will help you through the process.

    - You can choose between Offline and Online Avtivation.

=> excerts from the manual (sorry, I´m lazy today...):

For offline activation, mark “Offline Activation” and click “Next”. Note down the Computer ID shown in the box. Activate the browser on your internet computer, go to http://vsl.co.at/activate and follow the instructions.

The Response Key will be generated immediately, and a copy will be sent to your e-mail address. Enter it in the corresponding box of the Offline Activation Wizard and click “Activate!”. Thereafter, click “Finish” to complete the activation process. The Performance Modes for your registered products are now activated.

    That should do it!

    Best wishes, Paul

  • Thanks Guys,

Unfortunatley, in my edition of the tool, the file menu only has the options open, save, save as and exit!

It is rather old. Perhaps this means I should down load another version?

    what do you think?

    Thanks again

  • On each channel in your performance tool, where it says 'thru' click the UNDER arrow right beside it and you should see the legato and repetition. Choose the legato one and then hit the SIDE arrow button underneath the 'thru' screen and then hit 'open' and it will show you all of the folders to choose where your instrument .pal file is. Choose whatever instrument you are using for it, then hit 'apply' and it should work fine.

  • Hi Steve, which system are you working on?

For Win2000 and XP, get version 2.11 in our user area www.vsl.co.at/user => Tools!!

That will make it easier (I can´t even remember which Tool version didn´t have the activation option....)

    Greetings, Paul

  • hello guys,

    I am using windows XP

    cheers

  • Damon B,

Thanks for that, I didn't know they were there!
Unfortuantley, there are no settings for solo violin. Perhaps this wasn't around when I downloaded my version of the tool.

  • Hi Steve,

it´s no wonder you didn´t have any Tool Presets for the Solo Violin, you own the First Edition (that doesn´t contain it).

Please go to our user area and download your new Tool Presets for the Solo Strings.

    Best, Paul

  • Thanks Paul,

Got them, but when I try to load them I get the error message file type doesn't match no loading...

I think I'll take you advice and get a newer version of the tool.

Is it true about there being a time limit on newer versions of the tool, do I need activation codes etc and will I need to re download at any time?

    cheers

    steve

  • You are right,

we didn´t even know about the Horizon Legato Mode at at that time.

The system now is like this: You need the "normal" modes Legato, Alternation, Repetition for all Symphonic Editions.

The HOR-Legato applies to all Horizon Series products,

the only exceptions being Overdrive and the Vienna Concert Guitar, that need the GUIT-Legato Mode.

By registering all your products your user area will always provide you with the correct settings and activations.

    Best, Paul
