    Hey everybody,

    New to the forum and world of VEP so bear with me! I've read the manual, watched a few videos, and done some searching but I can't find any straight answers on these two questions:

    1) When running VEP on a single computer setup is there any reason I would need to be connected to ethernet? So far neither one of my computers is showing the VEP server in my sequencer when I try to connect. I try typing in my fixed IP address and it won't connect that way either.

    2) I'm only planning on connecting my iMac and MBP via ethernet (planning to expand out further down the line, but not necessary right now). Shouldn't I be able to connect my Macs together via ethernet without any hardware inbetween? Does my master computer need to be hardwired to my router?

    Welcome Dylan!

    To answer your questions...

    1) No. You do not need to be connected to anything. It will come up as LocalHost 127.0.0.1

    Keep in mind, you need to launch the VEP Server. You wont see it with the VEPRO Instrument plugin, if you have not lauched it and created an instance. Also, need to have you Vienna Key with the license on it. On both machines if you are going to use the server on both of them.

    2) Yes, you can connect them with a ethernet cable. No router needed. You just need to assign static IP's to each machine on the same logical network. like 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 Make sure they have the same subnet mask...like 255.255.255.0. No gateway entry is needed

    In a 2 Mac ecosystem like the OP is using and I intend to here is a regular or a crossover ethernet cable needed?

    With GigaBit Ethernet connections, the choice of ethernet cable luckily does not matter anymore.

    Thanks. The ethernet connection would be direct from machine to machine and whatever is stock in the iMac and MacPro.
