Hi Dave

I started liking it soon after playing but somehow everything was in mono and was somewhat difficult to listen to. I was wondering if yoiu intentionally did a mono mix? Please do post a stereo version if you have one, (or maybe pan the instruments more if youdid have a stereo mix?)

Hello Dave,

Probably you were listening with one ear to little Eve, the other ear checking the orchestral balance in your DAW. Remember that a man cannot multitask... 😉 Good composition though.

First off, thank you both Anand and Max for taking the time to listen and comment. I very much appreciate it!

Anand, you have sharp ears, my friend. It turns out that the software we were using to add a watermark to the end of each piece (where it says "Dear Villain Music.com") was downmixing the files to mono as the settings were wrong. This means that all the pieces I've posted in recent weeks from my dearvillainmusic website were mono mix-downs!

Needless to say, we've gone ahead and fixed them. I hope you'll enjoy the updated version of Appalachian Adventure and the Cartoon Classic in another thread 😊

And to Max, yes, Aria (Eve is her middle name) has me wearing noise reducing construction headphones to lower the crying decibels 😊

That was much better...

Loved the composition. Very joyful piece. Parts of the melody reminded me of Mahlers Wunderhorn songs, and the 4th movement of the 4th symphony.

And Im too very impressed at your commitment to music despite the arrival of Eve!

Better version, although I find that the orchestra (rather large one) has been recorded too closely. Sitting on the lap of the flute player depends on who he/she is. However to listen to the marvellous music some distance is required...

Sorry about 'Eve'. I don't know where I got that from (subconsciousness?). And it seems that even babies enjoy beautiful music. It can work miracles...

Thanks again, Anand and Max. Anand, there isn't a whole lot of music making going on this week, as Aria has been determined to pull me away from my piano every time I've attempted to play it. Max, interesting how subjective our tastes can be. Becky was feeling that the flute required even more presence. As to the proximity of the orchestra, the close mic position helps add clarity, But of course it is always a delicate balancing act, attempting to achieve sonic clarity and warmth/resonance. Dave

Hi Acclarion, great piece. 

I have been obsessed about spatialization and reverb for months now. I currently think, and I may change my mind tomorrow, that it is really just a matter of taste. But if I could somehow achieve the sound of the old Cleveland Masonic Temple (site of many great recordings by the Cleveland Symphony) that would be my ideal.

Glad you enjoyed the piece, Paul.  Becky and I recently did a concert in Cleveland, but I'll confess to not knowing anything about the Cleveland Masonic Temple and will definitely seek out some recordings to hear the space.
