    Hi - I am considering a move from PC to iMac and I have a few questions regarding Vienna Instruments running on a MAC. I am a home user of the products and currently use a Dell PC with 12 gig of ram installed with Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 960  @ 3.20GHz, 3201 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) and it more than meets my needs.

    The computer that I and looking at is the Apple iMac (MMQA2LL/A) 21.5" Intel Core i5 Dual-Core 7th Gen 2.3GHz Computer. 1 TB harddrive and 8 gig or RAM.

    1. Do I need a specialized sound card as I do now. 

    2. It has a max of 8 gig of RAM. is this sufficient?

    3. Any reason why I should not make the switch. (In the context of using Vienna Instruments.)

    4. What other info should I be providing to help get and informed answer.

    Hi,

    1. What ever audio interface / sound card you use now you may be able to use it on a Mac - Check for drivers

    2. Get as much RAM as you can afford or have room for for future use - As you get more advanced you'll use it

    3. If you want a Mac, get a Mac! - There are new versions coming out so it could be an idea to hold off and make sure you get a processor you like

    4. Working out your needs and wants is your choice

    Which audio card do you use now?

    If you want to use Logic you'll need a Mac - ðŸ’¡ - But if you don't need Logic you can avoid Mac altogether

    If you can keep your i7 920 as a slave machine

    PC's are more configurable than Macs but I don't want to start a debate - And I've heard Macs CPU's can throttle down more than Windows machines depending on the cooling solution on PC

    Macs are great and stylish but you could build your own Windows machine but you need to know all the bits you need to build the machine.

    I was going to get a Mac but UAD works on Windows now with thunderbolt - Pro Tools HDX is also possible on WIndows - Apple have Logic which is not available to PC users - OS X is probably better for music people than Windows 10 / 7 / 8 as it's easier overall

    Maybe you could explain a little more - Just some ideas above to consider but do strongly condsider keeping your i7 920 machine as it is as it will be useful for something - That is on the basis it works well - ðŸ˜Š
