  • Cubase 9 and VEP 6 - Track or Rack?

I have a single PC running Cubase Pro 9 with VEP6. The VEP manual says: "Instantiate Vienna Ensemble PRO as a VST or VST3 Instrument (///), ideally as a RACK instrument."

Why as a rack instrument? What are the benefits, pros and cons of Track vs Rack?

  • In past versions of Cubase you could not access midi ports when loading VE pro as an instrument track, only midi channels. However since there is no longer this limitation, its really up to you what you want to use. If you want all your audio busses in a single track, then load it as an instrument track. I however like the flexability loading VE pro on an instrument rack offers, as I now can move the VE pro audio inputs wherever I'd like in my Cubase project (usually under the midi track or at the top of an instrument groups folder).

Its really to you and what audio return method you prefer.

    Ah... ðŸ˜Š Ok, thanks, Jon.

I'm in the process of setting this all up. WHne you say: "all your audio busses in a single track" do you mean all the audio outputs from a single VEP Instance are on one track?

  • My current orchestra template is all Instrument Track based, but I am converting back to Rack Instrument based.

    1)  Being able to name the first audio output properly

    2)  Similar demarcation of roles between the Rack Output and VEP audio routing configuration and the MIDI Port/Midi track association.

By the way, in C9 you can drag the Rack Outputs around as well.
