  • Finale and VEP automation

I use Finale and VSL to compose large symphonic scores, up to 80 staves. I use Automation to change volume slider levels, and it works great. However it is tedious to create up to 128 (8x16) different connections between a bank/channel/CC# and a single staff. And this multiplies if you want to add pan, send, etc. MY QUESTION: is there a way to create and send send a parameter (or whatever) from a staff in Fanale to VEP that changes the volume for its corresponding channel? For an example - create one link between a Finale expression and the VEP volume slider that works on any channel that receives it. ALSO - is there any way to rearrange the automation page by Bank/Channel/CC# without redoing the entire set? Thanks - John

  • Hello John!

Depending on your settings under Human Playback Preferences/Dynamics, Finale can send velocity or CC commands to control volume and dynamics according to your dynamic expressions. The Finale mixer also sends CC7 commands to loaded instruments. So normally it shouldn't be necessary to create automation mappings in order to control volume.

I'm sorry to say that it's not possible to rearrange the automation mappings.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thank you Andi, I do this within Finale and it works well. However, there are still times when I want both the Oboe and Flute to be printed forte, yet I want the Oboe part to come out a bit more in the audio file. Or balancing between a marimba, snare, and 3rd clarinet all marked "mp".

So - can one Finale expression change the fader on which ever channel it is placed? For example an expression that says "-3 dB", or "+1.5 dB" that can be placed in any staff, to automate the corresponding fader.

    Thanks again

    John

  • Hello John!

The VE Pro mixer faders can only be automated with automation mapping.
For additional volume balancing, you could send CC commands to automate the expression faders of all loaded instruments. You don't need automation mapping for that, but you will need Finanle expressions to send these CC commands.

    Best,
    Andi
