  • VEP6 server stops sending sound to master

VEP6 at slave PC, master: macbook pro 2013, DP9.

Sometimes VEP6 just stops sending sound to master DAW, I can see fades reacting on tracks at slave PC, but DAW does not play it. It can happend during playback.

Plugin is still conected. Restarting DAW does not help.

Only full restart of VEP6 helps, and it takes 10 minutes to continue work.

VEP5 did not have that problem. Should I rollback to VEP5, or it is going to be fixed soon?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Lionberg,

May I ask for some additional information?

    1) Which OSs are you using on both computers?

    2) which version of VE PRO 6?

    3) What are your  network settings?

    4) Which plug-ins are loaded in VE PRO 6?

    5) Any way to reproduce the problem reliably?

    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul!

    1) Master: MacOS Sierra 10.12.6; Slave PC Windows 10 version 1703 (OS build 15063.674)

    2) VE PRO 6 version 6.0.16502 Oct 6

    3) Network: Master and slave conected thru ASUS RT-N56U router via cable (not wifi)

    4) VE PRO 6 does not use any plugins in mixing console. VE PRO 6 uses Kontakt v 5.6.8 instances. Each Kontakt instance is routed to its own buss. And important notice: VEP PRO 6 has to instances (strings, brass). When the problem occures, then strings instance does not send signal to master DAW, but 2nd instance (brass) may continue sending signal without any problem.

    5) The best way to reproduce is to load a project into DAW, and leave it for 24 hours. Usualy I do not close DAW. And sometines only one instace of VEP PRO is working properly. Today I managed to get this problem during playback.

  • Hi,

    Thanks.

    3) What are you network settings there? We suggest to work with static IPs, subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Does this also happen when you connect your computers directly (without router)?

    5) Did you check all "sleep" options on your windows computer? If this problem does not occur when you switch off your computer, that's quite an effective workaround, in my eyes (and environment friendly, too).

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi,

Now it is even stopped to send signals from local server instance, while remote one is still working.

So this is not about network settings.

How can I rollback to VEP 5?

  • Hi,

Roll back to VE PRO 5:

    1) Uninstall VE PRO 6 with the included Uninstaller

    2) Install VE PRO 5:
    http://www.vsl.co.at/en/MyDownloads/Software_Installers

Ve PRo 6 projects will NOT load in VE PRO 5.

    Best,
    Paul

  • But can you report this issue? I hope that it might be fixed.

Because it might be problem with moneyback, and we whould like to be sure the bug will not exist in future versions.

    Thanks.

  • Hello Lionberg,

The troubles you are reporting are unfortunately not reproducible on any of our systems, and it seems like no other user is having these issues.

I need to be able to reliably reproduce the problem, otherwise we cannot look into it efficiently.

    Best,
    Paul

  • I experience a lot of issues with VE6. I even switch DAW, but still have these issues.

Can I take my money back, and return to VE 5? Or I have no choice?

    VE 6 is very unrelaible.

It is continiusly loosing connection with host (local or remote - does not matter), It gliches at themp changes with remote VE6 server.

If you cannot reproduce it, that means that you do not have proper usecase, and it does not mean it does not exist. With such problems I even wonder if you had any regression testing... Very dissapointed!

  • VE 6 looses connection even with local instance. That means - no LAN connection problems, and this is software issue.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Load large orchestral template in PT 12.8.3 with two VE Plugin. One is connected to local instance, Second connected to lremote Instance.

    2. Ensure that all sounds from all instances are available and works.

    3. Leave the master computer intact for 24 hours. No sleeping mode, no screen savers.

Ecpected results: all instances are connected, and DAW gets sounds from it.

Actual result: local instance is marked as connected, but DAW does not receive any signal. you have to restart VE Server instance (usualy it is force restart - it does not respond), and restart DAW (DAW hangs after you quit/disconnect VE server).

This issue is reproducable with 50% probability. Thus, should be tested at least 3 times to reproduce the issue.

    Environment: master: iMac 5K 2017 64Gb,  Pro Tools 12.8.3, VE Pro 6, version: 6.0.16778, 2 Jan 2018.

  • tagging this as I still haven't solved my own issue with Vienna audio engine crashing at 24 hours. Cubase + VEP 6 is experiencing this as well.
