I am confused - possibly delighted.

I bought Solo Strings I full and the complete Chamber Strings bundle during the September sale. I haven't had a ton of time to work with them. Today I noticed that both have a bunch of Violin 2 articulations - all the basic ones, which is a big help to me since I do a lot of work directly with Finale.

I guess my question is - why is no mention of these patches made in any of the advertising/promotional literature or on-line content. There seems to be no listing of Violin 2 patches in the list of artics on the website.

A side question... am I either a) hallucinating these patches or b) did I actually buy Violin 2 and don't remember...?

Thanks for clearing this up. (I just discovered the patchest tonight, and have put them into a matrix but haven't had a chance to hear them in action)

Hi shnootre,

The Violin 2 Basic Patches were added to Solo Strings I to give you a quick option for a second violin (they are "only" transposed and resampled samples from the Solo Violin 1, to avoid phasing).

Check the Library Manual of Solo Strings I for a quick description of those patches.

Best,
Paul

Thanks Paul

This is really great - even if only transposed.since I work a lot in notation software I didn't have that option for generating a 2nd violin, this makes a big difference.

Same thing in Chamber Strings? Or did I imagine that?

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm afraid I was wrong, this is an undocumented extra, and yes, also with Chamber Strings!

Enjoy!

In some cases, if you play the same note on Vl 1 and Vl 2 at the same time, you will in fact get "phasing", because in these cases, Vl 1 and Vl 2 trigger the same sample at the same time. As a result, it sounds like one violin in the center instead of one violin on the left and another violin on the right. This has been acknowledged by VSL here:
