  • Mac Pro Master/ PC Slave ethernet connection unstable

    Hello,
    since I have not found a solution to my problem on this forum (although the issue has been addressed by numerous people here) I am opening my own thread, hoping for a lasting solution.

    My setup is as follows:

    1. Master Computer: Mac Pro (dustbin), 64 GB RAM, 4 TB int. SSD;
        OSX Yosemite 10.10.5
        fixed ethernet address (IPv4 manual, address 10.0.0.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, no router entry)
        direct ethernet cable connection between master and slave (see 2.)
        WiFi disabled
        Logic 10.2.4
        VEP 6.0.16419

    2. Slave computer: Windows 7 64 bit PC, Intel i7 3,5 GHz, 32 GB RAM
        fixed ethernet address (IPv4 manual, address 10.0.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, no router entry)
        VEP 6.0.15864
        No WiFi harbware installed

    After starting VE Pro server on the pc and loading my small template (one instance) hosting Kontakt with a few sounds loaded, I start Logic on the Mac and instantiate VE Pro server on a MIDI track. After a while (sometimes 5-10 secs), Logic "Finds" the VEP instance on my PC over the ethernet network. I click connect, and sometimes it connects, asometimes the entry vanishes again, then, randomly it pops up again, and trying to connect just yields an alert screen that it could not connect.
    So the first issue is that the connection is unstable at best, or better, virtually not useable.

    The second issue is that WHEN it should happen that I get a connection, I can play the sounds on my keyboard alright, but as soon as i hit PLAY or REC in Logic, the sound cuts of (the MIDI data is recorded of course). After stopping. It takes a while for the sound connection being established again and I can play along on the keyboard again (but never when the transport is running).

    I hope to have given al relevant information. I am very much hoping to find a solution, because I have only two weeks left until I start scoring a full feature film which would kickstart my career.

    Thank you!
