  • MIR Pro Teldex "wide"

Why is there only one microphone position in the Teldex "wide" venue? I know that the "deep" preset was made on actual recordings (Dietz wrote that in a thread somewhere), but I prefer the sound of the "wide" one.

Actually, I would rather use the Synchron Stage venue (which has two positions), but I am waiting for MirX presets for it. I hope they will come soon... ðŸ˜‰

As far as I understand it makes no sense to switch on the secondary mic on the same position in Teldex because it would be the same impulse response re-calculated.

That's very true. Using MIR's "Secondary Mic" from the same position as the Main Mic _could_ make sense for some very specific surround setups (... no direct signals in the rear speakers), but actually it's meant to be used for IRs recorded from a different position in the venue.

    Kind regards,

That was fast! Thank you, Dietz.

Breath ... just breath. Can you see an estimated timing for MirX? Just joking... ðŸ˜ƒ

So when I only have one position in the "wide" venue, is there anything I can do to enhance the sound? Or is the main microphone sufficient?

Well - how do you define "sufficient" ...? 😊 Of course everything you would expect from a coincident main mic plus carefully positioned spot mics is there (... don't forget that the Secondary Microphone is a quite recent feature). But like in case with most scoring stages, adding some "wow!" from an algorithmic reverb might help, as soon as you don't head for a pure, "realistic" room sound.

... I seem to remember that I did a few MIRacle presets for this very purpose ...?

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks. I can understand that everything is faced to the new Synchron Series, and, I am so excited, too. But it is a pity that there were no MIRx presets when Roompack 6 was released. So I stick to use Teldex at the moment, but it's okay, it has a great sound.

I am using MIRacle already. There are two for Teldex: "Enhance" and "Hybrid". Do you mean these, or are there others when you mean "a few"?

  • Oh, I thought there were more, sorry.

... I hardly ever use presets as they are, I almost always create new settings (or at least adapt existing ones) for each mix, that's why.

There are others (not related to a venue) to add shimmer or with longer tails, but I forgot the exact names. I never tried these. Probably, you mean these.

Anyway, thank you very much for the quick enlightenment. Have a nice day!*

    * P. S.: I am still looking forward for Synchron Stage MirX in the near (!) future. ðŸ˜›

Promised! (... unless things go wrong substantially, which might happen, in times like these ... 😕 ...)

... just don't think "in a month or two". In terms of man-hours, it takes me about six weeks to create a complete MIRx set for one Venue, from start to finsh.

    Thanks for your patience!
