  • Duplicating my Windows Slave VE Pro server to my Mac Master VE Pro server when away from the studio

    Hi,

I run VEPro Server on my Windows 10 slave in the studio, but when I go travelling, I use VE Pro Server on my Macbook Pro master.

When I open the VE Pro project file and the Cubase file on my Macbook master, (when disconnected from the PC slave), I'm faced with a lengthy manual process of:

    a) locating all the instrument folders in VE Pro for each instrument, since relative folder paths are different on a mac, (and mapped drives don't seem to work on Mac OSX, as they do on PCs); and

    b) having to reconnect every VE Pro instance in Cubase to the new 127.0.0.1 localhost IP address of the VE Pro server on the master

I've been spending the last couple of days researching and testing ideas but still haven't found an answer.

For problem (a):  in the studio, my slave is using a static IP address of 169.254.36.118, yet when I take my Macbook away from the studio, Ve Pro uses the localhost IP address of 127.0.0.1  - If there is some way that these 2 IP address could be the same, then I presume this problem would be solved.  I tried changing my PC slave's static IP address to 127.0.0.1 but Windows doesn't seem to allow it.  Then I tried to configure my Macbook master's localhost IP address to 169.254.36.118 so that Ve Pro Server would think it's the same as my slave, but I can't seem to do that either.  (Obviously when I go back in the studio, the 2 computers would have separate IP addresses, but would at least be in the same subnet).    I even looked down the path of using a virtual machine on my Macbook to act as a virtual Windows slave (using Parrallels software) but haven't gotten far with it.

For problem (b):   I need to configure the file systems in Mac OS X so that the contents of my external samples drive appears the same as it does when connected to my Windows slave.  Or vise versa - using UNC paths, or net share directories in Windows, that I could then set up to appear as the same location on my Mac so that VE Pro would instantly recognize all my instruments.

Does anyone have any suggestions that I haven't thought of yet?  Simply put, I just want to be able to take my projects away with me and have them open up easily.  Any suggestions are most welcome!!

    Cheers,

    Dave
