  • VSL unstable after network disconnect

The issue comlicates my life a lot.  I use VEP on an external PC and my DAW is the newest MBP.

After restarting my Mac (for example to install plugins) or accidentaly disconnecting the network when I reboot VSL becomes completely useless after recoinnecting to the VSL host from Remote Desktop App.

I have to reboot the VSL computer and wait 20 minutes to reload. THis is extremely frustrating, what can I do about it?

  • Hi Adia,

Please tell us the exact steps to reproduce this problem. Is there any situation where that does not occur?

What are your network settings? Are you working in decoupled mode?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Thank you Paul becuase this is a thing that frustrates me a lot. My Apple computer is 10.255.255.7

My SuperMicro PC computer with 128GB Ram is 10.255.255.5

Open Remote Desktop App to see what the SuperMicro is doing and connect to its Desktop

OPEN VSL host on SuperMicro PC and load a lot of samples (like 50 instances or more)- wait for this a lot of time.

Open Logic or even do not open, possibly with coupled mode.

Reboot your Mac and try to recconnet to Remote Host. You can see and operate the system there but VSL host software is frozen and sometimes if not you just need to reboot it anyway because it gives a bad latency while you press play in logic

  • Hi,

Thanks. The first thing I'd try is "normal" User IP addresses like 192.168.0.x or 10.0.0.x, and also eliminate the Remote Desktop Connection and use a normal monitor, to be safe.

Also eliminate Firewalls and AV programs on both computers.

How much RAM are you loading (how much RAM is still available)?

Can it be that your plug-ins crash or freeze?

Did you try to eliminate more exotic plug-ins?

VE PRO does not freeze or crash without a reason, we need to find out what it is.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Dear Paul, Dear All,

the culprit was Microsoft Remote Desktop. It is fantastic but I cannot rely on this, because when some network disconnects it LOGS OUT the user somehow and log ins back, then everything does not work.

I DO NOT WANT TO USE ANY EXTERNAL MONITOR TO MY HOSTING PC.

What program from a Mac you could use to see its screen? But not e Remote Desktop

And how to set it up with Windows Start?

    Hi,

    You could try Teamviewer.

    Best,
    Paul

  • Tkank you- but will the TeamViewer work without Internet, over LAN only? What plans are for the VSP7? If automation were easily possible for example with NI Kmplete or Kontakt I would NEVER need to buy the iMacPro

  • Hi there,  in case you have two ethernet connectors on both PC's you can use Teamviewer in order to control remotely your slave PC. With Remote desktop I had crashes. With Teamviewer it works fine sifar...

    for your info

    all the best
