  • technique text in Sibelius

    Dear,

I am new to VSL.  I've installed VSL solo voices, added the Vienna Ensemble device in Sibelius, assigned the manual sound sets and modified the corresponding midi channels in VE.  Then I have imported the VSL house style properly.

When I write a note in one voice in Sibelius, the Vienna Ensemble shows activity in the corresponding instrument.  So far so good.  I also switched the Velocity Xface on, for correctly interpreting the Sibelius hairpins.  Works too.

But technique text (Cmd+T) in Sibelius has no effect.  Legato, vibrato, non vib, breath : all sounds remain unaffected.  It seems that the house style is not recognized (although it is listed and imported by Sibelius without any alerts).  I have other VL's with other house styles, but never had such issues before.

And another very odd issue (that might be unrelated) : when I add a keypad articulations accent + staccato dot articulation in one of the instruments, this particular accented staccato note (and only this one) is playbacked by the first instrument (so the channel switches).

System : MBP 16 Gb RAM, OSX 10.10, Sibelius 7.1.3.

    Thank you for advice !

    Joris

  • Hello Joris!

Such a problem can have different reasons. Please make sure that you load the VI presets that come with the VSL Soundset Installer. These presets can be found under Sibelius/Choir 1.1/Solo Voices/Solo Voices -AA-

Further help can be found in the Troubleshooting chapter of the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual.

  • Dear Andi,

Thanks for your reply.  As I wrote in my message I did load the presets correctly, since I effectively hear the voices playing in the right channels (instruments) of Sibelius, and the hairpins work correctly too.

I went through the Troubleshooting chapter of the Optimizing Sibelius Playback manual, but couldn't find any issue that relates to mine.  In fact, all of the suggested solutions are already in place in my setup.

Since you suggest that my problem can have different reasons, could you please give me an indication what these reasons could be ?

    Best wishes,

    Joris

    Hello Joris!

All possible reasons that come to my mind are written in the in the Troubleshooting chapter of the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual.

Just because you hear the instrument and hairpins work, doesn't mean that you have loaded the correct VI preset. 😉 Which VI preset did you load exactly? And which sound set did you load in Sibelius on the Playback devices page?

    Best,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi,

    VI Presets : 01_Sib_Solo_C-Soprano_AA.vipst, 02_Sib_Solo_Soprano_AA.vipst and 03_Sib_Solo_M-Soprano_AA.vipst.

    Sibelius soundset : VE Choir

  • Hello Joris!

The VI presets and the sound set are correct. If you can't solve your problem with help of the manual, I can offer you to send your Sibelius file and playback configuration (xml file and all files in the data folder) to support@vsl.co.at. I will take a look at your files.

On Mac Sibelius 7 playback configurations can be found in the following folder:
    Users/username/Library/Application Support/Avid/Sibelius 7/Playback Configurations
The Users/username/Library folder is hidden by default. To get access, go to the folder Users/your username. Then choose Go/Go to folder and enter “Library”.

Maybe you can add your Vienna Ensemble project file and a screenshot of the Sibelius Manual Sound Sets page as well.

    Best regards,
    Andi
