My plug in instruments are not showing in VE. All my effects plug ins are and everything is showing in digital performer and working. Not sure why I can’t load anything but Vienna pro instrument instances in VE. All software is updated.

Trying to set up a new template on my new iMac pro.

Hi Geoff,

Did you check if you opened the VE PRO 64 bit version?

Best,
Paul

Paul- Yes it's 64 bit. I guess I could route the stuff in for use in Mir Pro but from what I've read I should be able to load these instruments in. As I said, they all show up in Digital performer as do all the effects. I effects are all available in DP and VE. Never had this before on my old iMac.

Paul- did a little research. I thinks it’s a permissions issue in High Sierra.

Hi,

Which plug-ins are affected, and which kind of permission issue are you referring to?

Thanks for the additional information!

Paul

Sounds like you just need to add the path to your other VSTi in VST Settings

Paul- It's only the instrument plugins. When I did the initial set up on the iMac Pro they told me if I ran into issues accessing old programs that it would probably be from permissions issues on certain folders. I am going to get on with apple support. I believe this is a High Sierra built in protection from malware and viruses. I'll let you know what I find out from apple.

Transitioning is always a pain but it will ultimately be worth it. This machine should run a pretty hefty template with 10 cores and 128 GB ram. Excited to finally start using the potential of the VSL products I own.

Paul- It's not permissions. We reset permissions and it still doesn't work. I've tried rescanning the plugins in VE. I was on a screen share with apple for over an hour and we went through everything they could think of.

Other than rescanning is there a way to reconnect with plug in instruments. It just seems strange that all my AU and MAS effects all show up in VE but none of the instruments while everything is available in DP. I can't load Kontakt, SWAM, Omnisphere, Trillian, Toontrack, Ivory II, Music Lab... none of my other instruments but Vienna Instrument Pro loads.

Any ideas?

Hi Geoff,

Very strange. Did you try to delete the VE PRO Preferences yet (I have attached a screenshot)?

Paul

Didn't help. At a loss to figure this out. Gonna think about it and see if I can come up with any ideas. Just doesn't make sense.

I’m going to uninstall and reinstall VE. Maybe that will solve it.

Paul- I unistalled and reinstalled VE Pro and now things are working properly. VE crashed once after the reinstall when I opened it through VE Server while it was scanning the AU. I then launched VE Pro directly as a stand alone and it scanned everything and all my instruments are there. I'm not sure why it crashed or what the problem was earlier but it appears to be working now.

I will run it through it's paces tomorrow but keep your fingers crossed that it was somekind of install error.

Best-

Geoff

Okay Paul- Here's what I'm finding now... When I try to load an instance of Vienna Ensemble Pro in DP, I only get Vienna Ensemble as an option (not Pro). I've reinstalled VE Pro several times and I'm not seeing it come up in the instruments pull down menu in DP to add a VE Pro Track. For some reason the VE Pro instances in the old DP file were replaced with VE. That may have been the source of the problem.

The standalone of VE Pro works great and has my instrument plugins. Any ideas? Sorry it's taken me this long to get things this far. I've been teaching and off my music software for about 6 months so I'm rusty. Hopefully this makes sense to you.

Best-

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

I'm afraid I overlooked that you are working with DP 9 on High Sierra. Unfortunately there is really an incompatibility there, and both the MOTU and our team are working on it. Seems like this is a tough one to crack...

Sorry about that delay, I should have found out earlier.

I was beginning to think I was crazy. Obviously this is awful. I’m trying to build my template and I’m faced with switching to logic or dumping VEP. Neither choice is palatable for me. My $10,000 computer is being rendered as useful as a brick. Appears this has been going on for months. I don’t think I can downgrade the system software on the iMac pro so I’m stuck waiting for this to be resolved.
I’m sure this will be a bigger and bigger issue with all the film composers on DP and the number of them I know who are buying iMac pros. I wish I would have known. I would have delayed the upgrade. Any idea how long this might take? I’ll contact motu as well. The more complaints the more resources they might put on this.
