  • Vienna Ensemble Pro Demo

Hi I have a new computer arriving this week and was thinking about trying the VEP6 demo.

Can you tell me what I will need?

Do I need a second key to run the demo? I have my licences attached to my main computer on my cubase eLicenser which must stay on my main machine.

Do I need a router or switch (both?) in my studio or can I link the computers together without one?

    Regards

    Rob

  • Hi Rob,

You will need a ViennaKey or other eLicenser USB key on your slave computer.

For testing purposes, you can also run the VE PRO Server on your master computer (it's the same system).

You can connect your computers directly, if you like.

I have just sent you a demo license activation code with further instructions!

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul

Thanks for the info. I just ordered the new key.

I haven't connected two computers together since XP.   Do I need to use a crossover cable?

Is the server and the plugin part of the same package?

    Regards

    Hello Rob,

You will need a GigaBit Ethernet connection (sytem requirement), and you don't need a crossover cable for that standard anymore.

The Server is the part that is running separately from your DAW, and the plug-in CONNECTS to those servers from within your DAW.

Please check out the videos and manual, that will help a lot!

    Paul

  • Hi Paul

    I tried the demo.

The software is too good not to own so I bought it.

Just doing some testing now and there is something that is confusing me.

With the plugin on my main computer I click the Vel.XF box and my breath controller now controls the amount of XF and I can see the VelX fader moving. (CC2)

On a slave machine over the network. Clicking the box seems to do nothing.

I can get the breath controller to work by sending a CC28 message from Cubase yet the VelX fader does not move.

    Is this the expected behaviour?

  • Hi Rob,

    Happy you like VE PRO!

With Vienna Instruments, make sure that you have actually activated Vel XF in the settings, and that your controller is sending on the right MIDI CC. Should be straight-forward!

  • Hi Paul

In my post I thought I explained it well. Maybe not..

Yes my controller is sending the correct CC..   -  CC2. As explained above.

What do you mean activate in the settings?

My main machine has a new install of Win10 and all Vienna software. Slave machine has identical Vienna software but Win7 instead of Win10.

The only thing I need to activate to get the fader to move with CC2 in Ensemble on the main (Win10) DAW is the check box in the perform tab - Vel.XF. Ticked

On my slave (Win7) the same check box in Ensemble does nothing

I have to send CC 28 from cubase to activate.

CC2 does work (on slave Win 7) but the fader does not move.

    Is this typical behaviour?

All my machines will eventually be Win 10. Just testing at the moment on my Win 7 laptop..

  • Ok

Today I just started her up and Vel.XF worked first time on the slave.

It's working as I expected it to and I have no idea why it was acting strange yesterday.

    Loving this software.

    Hi Rob335,

A great way to start the day ðŸ˜Š

And thanks for the feedback! Isn't it interesting that you refer to your computer as a "she"?

  • Hi Paul

    It's an Australian thing.

All our cars and machines and guitars etc get the same treatment.

Started her up.. . Fired up the old girl..  She runs like clockwork etc etc!
