    I bought the standard version, and still hesitate to update to the full one... just for the ribbon mics. There is a small demo in the last walkthru video, but would it be possible to have an A/B comparaison audio file of the close mics with the same song!? Thanks a lot!

    Very strange, it seems that VSL not wants a money) There are potential buyers of a full version, but it's not possible to make a choice without examples. Is anybody here, who have a full version?

    Hello,
    I rendered a few days ago a short piece (all staccato playing) from a midi file and covered almost all the mics.
    All the recordings are without any eq. The only differences from default are: Dynamic 80, Body 40%. The last one gives a little more bass to the tone.

    If I may chime in (without a demo), I find the true value of close-mic 2 is not just how great it sounds on its own, but also how it combines to work with close-mic 1, which really accentuates the spatial depth and its "presence" (please refer to the attached screencap, a "Player" preset with the surround-to-stereo mixdown).

    Absolutely.  The combination really works well for me too.

    OK, you all convinced me! I've also played around with the stems Erard submitted to reach the same conclusion: close 1 and 2 mix perfectly well, resulting in a much richer/natural sound... Pretty pleasing result!

    Just a note: Close 1 are Schoeps MK 4 cardioids, that is a well-known small diaphragm condenser mic in orchestral recording; on the other side Close 2 are Royer Labs SF-24, that is a ribbon mic. The rich sound of the latter is  the natural being of ribbons for orchestral music :)

    Moreover, Close1 is an ORTF config  of cardioids close to hammers, so result is quite dry; Close 2 is a Blumlein pair (SF-24 is a figure 8), so it catch some of the room sound.

     

    Personally, I love ribbons...
