  • shoul i upgrade?

    Hi Guys!

    Is my first post here!

I am a new user of VE PRO 6, and i love it!

I use a single computer, with a I7 7700K processor and 32 Gm RAM (and 2 PCIe M2 drives and 3 SSD drives).

    I use cubase 9.5 PRO

With the Vienna ensemble, i can use much more instruments. I don't know why! Maybe is a cubase problem.

I think my processor I7 7700K is very good, but i have the chance to sell it and get a new board with a I7 8700K 6 core.

    1) Do you thinh i will notice a big improvment? 7700K to 8700K is woth the upgrade?

    2) Should i keep this 7700K and use it as a maste PC and buid a I5 quadcore system to use as a slave?

    3) Use a MAC MINI Quadcore I7 2.6GHz (from late 2012) as a Master, and my I7 as a slave

    Thanks!

  • Hi and welcome to the dome! I plan to purchase (or to win??) the successor of the 8700K, called 8086K with up to 5 GHz ...It is a new limited anniversary high end processor and it is much more powerful. It is officially confirmed and short before release ... Take a look ... (BTW: there will even be 8086 anniversary give aways of this high end processors) https://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-core-i7-8086k-40th-anniversary,37193.html

Why not just keep everything on one machine?

You say you have VEP 6 but what libraries do you have?  All VSL, Kontakt? Eastwest?  Are you planning on expanding? Synchron maybe?

Personally I like to keep everything on one machine as it tends to keeps complications to a minimum but I think I'm in the minority here😕

  • Well, i prefere to use just one computer. That's wy i asked if i wiill get a big increment in performance change the 7700K to a 8700K (4 to 6 Cores). Onother option is move to X299 platform and get a 7820X processor (8 cores).

I am using VEP 6 because if i use only the instruments loaded on cubase, i run "out of power" quikly (but the processor gets only 25% of use)... so i assume is the Audio Engine from cubase is a crap.

Now, with the VEP i can load a looooot more instruments. Don't know why cubase can't deal with this.

I am teaking my settings on cubase, kontakt and VEP (based on posts of this forum) ang i get good results!

I use a lot of libs (Spitfire, OT, Project Sam, NI)... and i am planning to get some Vienna to try it.

  • I assume it's mainly because VI is a VST2 plugin, but VE is VST3. VST3 has better performance, so you can host more instruments.
As long as you are not planning to use MIR, your current setup should handle a lot of instruments (assumed you have enough RAM and fast SSDs).

To use MIR with full orchestra I had to upgrade my Core i5 4th gen to an i5 8600k. Now it works just fine :)

    Best, Ben
