    Hello,

    I've been using Vienna MIR Pro (VMP) for a while.  It's housed in my Master iMac computer along with Digital Performer (DP) and a Vienna Ensemble Pro 6 (VEP6) server.  Two Mac slave computers also house VEP6 servers.  I access VSL instruments with Vienna Instruments Pro and other instruments housed in the VEP6 servers in my DP DAW.

    Via the DP Mixing Board I access VMP by inserting VMP "Plugins"* for each audio channel.  All appears to be working well regarding this configuration.  *(Please confirm if this is or is not the correct use of the "Plugins" term here.)

    My question is regarding whether or not I should be using MIRx or not in addition to the above configuration.  I just downloaded the document "Vienna MIR Vienna Symphonic Library MIRx Instrument and Venue Presets for Vienna MIR Pro Rev. 1.1."

    After reviewing this document it's still not clear to me what advantages there are to adding MIRx to VMP.  This document suggests that there are advantages, but I still fail to see what they may be.

    Please advise if there are advantages to adding MIRX to VMP and if there are, simply put, what are the advantages?

    So, correct me if I'm wrong, but considering my current configuration using MIR Pro as a plugin in my Master computer in my DAW, there is no advantage to using MIRx.  Just continue to use MIR Pro.

    Would that be a correct assumption?

    Hi pacificm,

    The advantage of using MIRx is the already configured presets (a lot of them if not all done by Dietz :o) ). Basically it is almost a plug-and-play solution for your Vienna Instruments (Pro). In addition, there is MIRx mode available within MIR Pro engine. You press F7 on your keyboard and based on the selected instrument icon, it will "MIRx-ify" your instruments around the stage in terms of positioning, EQ, microphone/output configuration, and just about anything else. You could either let it do both the positioning only or positioning and output as well. There are bunch of checkmarks on the floating window (within MIR Pro engine and VE Pro) that are pretty self explanatory what they do.

    Now in your case, as you are using the plug-in option of MIR, a lot of settings have to be completed manually, since there is no way for Vienna Ensemble Pro (VE Pro)  or MIR Pro for example to know what is going on within your DAW other than an incoming signal to be processed. Hence the little name box inside your MIR Pro Plug-in allowing you to name your instrument, pick a color etc.

    You can continue to use MIR Pro the way you do, or you could transition to VE Pro enterily and have full use of the presets quickly. Also you could combine the methods, like use MIRx on your Vienna instruments and go with the predefined settings (fast), and in the case with 3rd party virtual instruments within your DAW or VE Pro deploy them to MIR Pro, do our own positioning, EQ, Level etc. You could do any combination of the above.

    The advantage of using MIRx is speed and ease of mind when it comes to making the technical decisions. So is the MIRx mode within MIR Pro. You could either use it on an instrument, use it partially or not use it at all. It is totally up to you.
