  • VEP Eating Up Computer Memory

I'm using Vienna Ensemble Pro 6 (VEP6), Vienna Instruments Pro (VIP) and Vienna Mir Pro (VMP).  My Master computer is an iMac with 32 GB of ram.  The two slaves are an iMac and a Mac Pro.  All of the above have VEP6 servers.  My DAW is MOTU's Digital Performer.  I have been using this configuration for over a year with considearble size of instruments used with no problem.  I have the latest updates of software installed on all of the above.

I am now experiencing an odd situation with memory usage on the Master computer.  I noticed recently that if I leave the system open for a few hours, I get a low memory warning message from my Master OS.  The "beach ball" appears on DP and I need to force quit to exit DP.  The project I was working on had very few open instruments and a few audio channels.  Plus, I was not even working with DP at the time.

I called MOTU technical support and discussed the problem.  I was advised to check memory usage via the Activity Monitor with VEP6 and without VEP6.  I've completed these tests.  With VEP launched, DP memory usage started out at 1.50 GB, VEP6 was 658 MB and total memory used was 8.25 GB.  After two hours, DP memory usage jumped to 16.4 GB, VEP6 jumped to 1.1 GB and total memory used was 24 GB.  I completed the same test with a new file without launching VEP6.  DP started out at 1.68 GB and total memory usage was 7.88 GB.  After two hours, DP memory usage had stayed the same at 1.68 GB and total memory usage was 8.53.

MOTU said it sounded like a problem that could be VEP6 related.  MOTU suggested I contact VSL for assistance.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

    Please advise.  Thank you.

  • Hey pacificm,

Have you tried purging the memory? There are apps out there that can do the job and work on any inactive processes. I can recommend this one:

  • Hello,

I'm still having problems with memory leakage.  I downloaded and installed the Menubar stats 2 you recommended in your link.  However, I'm not able to locate a memory purge function in it.  Are you aware of where it is located?  If so, please let me know.

    Thanks!

    James

  • Hello,

I found the clean function, but it did not help.

    Thanks!
