  • Synchron Player Wish List - "Purty Please"

First, thank you VSL for this beautiful new synchron player and congratulations on its release!  It handles control over multiple mics in a most elegant way.  However, there are are several funtional performance controls missing that were musically very useful in the VI-Pro player.  Please consider adding these to Synchron Player as well.

    1) Humanize was an extremely useful feature!  It could not only be used for performance variations but also to add vibrato, richness to ensembles, and much more.  Please bring this back!  (In a pleading but "nice tone") PLEASE!

    2) Slot Crossfade was a terrific way to add expression to the existing selection of articulations.  While I understand the design of the new Synchron Player might not easily support this concept (as it could lead to large CPU demands), it was still an important enough function that is not easy replicated by simply stacking tracks.  The ability to crossfade between two different articulations with variable degrees was a hugely valuable expressive feature.

While there may be technical obstalces to incorporating the above features, please consider the expressive musical importance of these functions.  Many of the most beatiful VSL realizations would not have been possible without these parameters.

The slot crossfade is still there. It's called parallel mode and is indicated by that small button next to the dimension controller. When it's colored blue, it's activated. In the edit tab, there's the option "parallel mode" where you can switch between Xfade and mix, which is the same thing as the "X" symbol between slots in VI Pro.

Regarding humanize - yes, it absolutely needs to be implemented!

Thanks for pointing that out.  I overlooked the parallel mode, that's great.

And now if only I were overlooking the humanize functions...  I do hope these get added.

  • Mmmm... maybe they are planning a Pro version, as for VI...

No, I remember Paul said that player was so powerful he couldn't think to a Pro version of it.
I think we'll have to wait some month before to see every feature impelemented in the new player.

    +1 for the humanize :)

    Great. +1 here too 😊

  • When I compose I like to just use the mouse and keyboard... So automatic random delay was very useful for me. :) Instead of several slots for it, there could be "100 different hidden slots" (or how this would be programmed) for automatic delay, and a fader for the degree of randomness. An on-switch for the whole preset would be nice here, and a right click on articulations for exception (on/off). Just a suggestion! :) Curves for different tunes could be another part of the engine. To avoid presets and much work, and to save ease-of-use, it would be easier with only one graph for tuning, and randomness for this curve. (An on-switch for the whole preset would be necessary, and exceptions for different articulations, if desired.) Maybe hard to code, but the points of the curve have to move randomly in two axes near the plotted points. And of course, the degree of randomness here too. :) The original curve would of course be the starting-point of how much the articulations are bended. :P

    Best regards,

    Johannes Baumann

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this would be much easier to implement, and a much more user-friendly solution to the whole humanize chapter. :) And for those who like to just use the mouse and keybaord, the project you are working with is very clean and easy to work with. :D

EDIT2: By the way! I was thinking of the idea of just one graph for tuning: The graph has to be mirrored in the background, so the mirror is included in the randomness. :P If the curve starts below the actual note, when you play you will hear the note coming from above too... This mirror is important to be able to disable also: If you intentionally want the note to bend upwards only (a big curve for example as an effect, instead of realism purpose), or downwards. :3

  • The player desperately needs an undo function.

It's very easy to trash a full hour of configuration work by just simply accidentally copying the wrong dimension structure somewhere, or doing something similar. Happened to me twice already. Doing your own presets is like walking on egg shells. Immensely frustrating!

I know its a bit boring but less than loosing hours of work... save save and save again. 😉 Anyway we need undo + 1
