  • VI Pro Dimension Series multi-out?

Hi, Is it possible to send each dimension player to its own output via VI Pro, to place in MIR pro? As far as I can tell, this doesn't happen. If not, please consider this a feature request. I can't emphasise enough how useful this feature would be. Cheers!

  • Very interesting Question since VI-Pro has at least 4 possible Outputs at least opne could ad in the VE-Mixerview further 3 Outputs. But unlike the Synchron-Player-Mixer the Mixer inside VI-Player does not seem to have any option to assign different Mixerchannels to different VI-Outputs.

So to make the question a bit more precise:

Are there any options to assign VI-Mixerchannel to different Outputs?

(btw.: I would really appreciate if the Dimension-Series will be adapted for the Synchron-Player. this would make many of its feature much better usable not at least it was the dimension Series what made me five years ago suggest a Player based on multiple Articulationdimensions, just think on the whole wealth of force one certain string samples which couldn't be better made available than with articulation dimensions.)

  • Hi,

Yes, you can route the outputs of VI PRO to MIR PRO separately, e.g., in VE PRO.

What I would rather do is create a separete MIDI Channel for each player. also to have an easy access to small changes.

Now that would be a useful feature, I can't wait! 😊 If both these things could be done at once, that would be a huge time saver, not to mention reduce some serious screen clutter. Having 32 instances of VI Pro open just for the strings also seems to use a lot more CPU than 1 instance per section. I just wish there was a fast way to compose for a full dimension ensemble, while all the players are individually spaced out where you really want them on the MIR stage, without all the copy pasting every time you write a part. This would reduce the need for copy pasting and also the need to remix stuff when you write divisi if you are using MIR presets such as "dimension violins 6 players" when drafting for a full ensemble.

I personally do not understand, where those four output get their signal from.

Is there any Option, to route seperate Channels of the internal VI-Mixer to a specific one of those four Outputs.and why only 4 outputs if the internal Mixer can have more channels?

  • Just thought I'd share, I found a work around to achieve the same result in logic X. You can use a summing stack to place each player on stage where you want them, but control them all at once from the main track stack. It is also easy to write divisi parts - all you have to do is open the stack folder. This method gets me the best sound I have ever had from dimension strings. Very heavy on resources, though. Whoops accidentally deleted whatever my last post was and double posted in stead...

  • Agree 100% with Antcarrier's request...I would love to be able to route individual players to different outputs, but still have the quick control over humanization/delay/tuning that seem to be available only through stacking in VI Pro.

For now I'm placing individual Dimension Strings players onstage in MIR, as that sounds the best to my ears. However, as I understand it, this means using separate VI Pro instances, hence sacrificing  the humanization features which were the whole point of getting VI Pro in the first place!

Humanizing manually by duplicating midi parts, shifting the timing/pitch etc... can yield good results but is super time-consuming.

I've tried the 2 and 4-player Dimension Strings group presets in MIR, but I keep hearing weird phasey-sounding hot frequencies when playing this way, compared to placing individual players onstage. I've tried rotating, changing stereo field, messing with the 'character' settings between pure/warm/silver etc...but still can't seem to get the same sound.

If only the multi-outs in VI Pro were assignable to the slots, rather than the matrices...I would be a happy camper.
If there's some workaround that I've missed, feel free to correct me.

    Thanks
