  • resolved: elicenser/install problem...

i've had Vienna Imperial installed for about a year now and it's been working fine

i just bought the 'guitars' package...

i got the activation code email, then downloaded and installed the latest elicenser and download manager software

the new activation attempt failed, despite multiple retries, restarts and reboots...

when i click on the elicenser icon, i get the following message:

"The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-I1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

i'm running win10 and haven't changed/updated it since the original install...my music computer is not connected to the internet...the only 'changes' i make to the computer are the regular creation of new music files, and the occasional music software upload (Vienna, etc.)...

    any ideas for a fix?

    Hi whatever,

Found this when I googled the message.

    Best,

  • resolved...

thanks for the quick reply Paul...

i haven't got my new software installed yet (my garage needs work..), but i did manage to resolve the problem first reported, so thought i should add this update for the curious (and perhaps the similarly desperate..)...

long story short, eat your veggies and do your software updates...more specifically to my problem, keep your OS updated...

for those who revel in the pain of others, by all means keep reading...

an apology required here...my original post said i was using win10...i'm actually running win8.1 pro (so why did i say win10?  because i'm an idiot...)  i suspect this is fairly critical as regards my problem - if i was actually running win10, it's very possible that i would never have had the problem in the first place...maybe...my suspicion is that win10 may include the files i needed that aren't in the version of win8.1 pro that i had installed...maybe...

back to Paul's reply to my original email...if you followed the link that Paul supplied (apology #2 - although i use google pretty much literally every day, it never occurred to me to google the error message i reported above...lesson learned...), you get to a page that suggests a number of possible fixes...the very first fix suggested is "update your OS software"...i didn't do that (at first)...why not?  again, because i'm an idiot...and because i wanted very very very much to never ever ever ever ever update my OS, if at all humanly possible (everything was working just fine...why would i want to update?)...well folks, forget about it, it's really not humanly possible...at least, not if you want to add new functionality to your setup (like, say, new Vienna sw...)

fwiw, i'm probably going to break down and hook up my music computer to the (gasp) internet...it's just too much pain to not have that handy...my non-music pc keeps running just fine despite being constantly hooked up (yes, fingers crossed..)...keep installing the various bug fixes and misc updates, skip facebook, twitterdom and porn downloads and your music will probably be reasonably safe...and of course, always keep a separate backup of your music files!   good luck to all...
