  • Looking for advice on system build for VE6

Here is my current situation. I am a music hobbyist who likes to mess arround with orchestral libraries, midi etc. Money is limited. I love Logic Pro X so I couple of years ago I purchased a mac mini server mid 2011. It has 2 7200 RPM drives in it and 8 GB RAM. I purchased another 8GB and it was fine for a while but something happened because it started beeping and wouldn't boot with the second RAM stick in. Even if I put the originial 2x4GB sticks in it does the same thing now so I'm thinking it is the RAM slot that could be bad.

So the performance on the MAC isn't the greatest when I start to load up the EW gold libraries.

That got me thinkign about VE6.

I just built a PC for gaming last year with an I7-7700K, 16GB RAM, and two SSDs one 250GB the other 500GB. I thought that it would be cool to run this as a slave and hook it up to my mac mini via VE6.

I'm wondering if that would help things on the mac mini since I want to stick with logic pro x as my daw? The PC is my main PC I use for everything including gaming

I'm wondering what would be the bestter path at this point:

1.) On the PC I could upgrade the RAM to 32GB, purchase VE6 and an additional gigabit network card. Connect that as a slave into my mac mini as the master.

2,) Save money and buy a better mac.

3.) Get my RAM slot issue fixed and buy an SSD for the MAC Mini server?

Just wondering what the most cost effective way would be to get some performance boost. I wish macs weren't so expensive!
