    Evening all,

    Please excuse my ignorance, I am hoping someone could shine a light into my darkness! Have done my damndest to work this all out but I'm all a bit confused...

    All was well, two weeks ago I purchased the VSL SE Bundle Vol.1 with eLicenser after much research. I'm not tech illiterate but I certainly don't enjoy it so was pleased when I was able to install and start writing almost immediately. Now my compositions are expanding the strain is showing on my 2011 macbook pro, 8 gig RAM, 2.4GHz i7 and I've already had enough of bouncing down as I go, being as it's the 21st Century.

    1. If I wanted to install my Special Edition Vol.1 and Vol.1 Plus on a slave/networked PC I would need to purchase Vienna Ensemble Pro? And would I need another eLicenser for the slave machine? VSL support wrote to me today saying the Instrument Collections are not software applications? And only come with one licence so I'm a bit confused how I would make this happen. When I'm running a VI or VE plug in on Logic it seems like software to me.......

    2. If I was to upgrade my main computer instead would a top of the range iMac with 32 gig RAM be sufficient? At what point/size of project do you need a 128 gig RAM capable iMacPro? And how much bearing does a quad (iMac) or 8 core (iMacPro)processor have? I'm assuming that I just reinstall Special Edition Vol.1 and Vol.1 Plus onto the new computer and just unplug the eLicenser from my MacBookPro and into the iMac and away we go? I'm envisaging issues and it's making me nervous!

    I thank anyone for their two penn'orth in advance, my girlfriend would thank you more. What else it there to do on Friday night?!

    Hi,

    1. Yes, you'll need VE Pro for use in a network. VE Pro comes with 3 licenses, so you can have your host + 2 slaves with one license. For each pc you'll need an additional eLicenser.
    The license of an instrument can only run on one pc. You have to decide which pc runs which instrument (In your case it is probably all of Vol 1).

    2. For the special edition 8 GB RAM are enough, but I would recommend at least 16 GB. If you plan to use MIR, go with 16+ GB RAM. As long as you are not touching the Synchron instruments you will not need more then 32 GB RAM.
    For CPU: A new quad-core should work, but I would recommend to buy a hexa/octa-core for the future.
    And yes, you just have to install everything on your new PC and plug the eLicenser into it.

    If we're just talking about the SE collections what do you need a master/slave set up for?  As a matter of fact the machine you describe here...

    Is more than adequate to handle the entire cube let alone SE collections so I would just stick to one machine and keep things simple.  Having a master/slave set up for just some S.E. collections would be a classic Rube Goldberg Machine scenario.

    And yes, you would just have to plug in your Vienna key to the new system and "away we go."  However, the step most people forget is to install the software on your new machine.

    and actually..... I was running 5 VI's with 8GB RAM and having problems. With the need to run at least 30, 32GB didn't seem excessive.....

    I use the Symphonic Cube and some other instruments. With over 30 VI all in MIR I use around 17-18 GB RAM. RAM is expensive at the moment, so I got a board with 4 slots and installed 2x 16 GB RAM. So I can upgrade as soon as I need more / RAM gets cheaper.

    You mentioned you are using a MacBook, I'm assuming you installed your SE library on the internal hard drive? If so that can cause a bottleneck and you would probably get a performance boost by having your VSL instruments on an external drive. I'm not familiar with that model, so I can't recomend a particuarly type of drive to use, but I'm sure some of the more tech savy people here or VSL's tech support could help.

    Also, it would help if your told us what DAW, audio interface, other software and virtual instruments are you running at the same time. There maybe some settings you can tweek to get better performance.

    If you're using 30 VI with 18GB then I'm assuming bottlenecking and my 2011 i7 2.4GHz processor dragging it down..

    So thanks very much for the advice, I will certainly get in touch with support and ask them about which particular drives. SSD no doubt. I'm probably upgrading to iMac next week but right now I'm running:

    Late 2011 15inch MacBookPro, i7 2.4GHz, 8GB RAM, 750GB SATA HD. Duet2 Apogee

    A typical session would 12 VI's, Reaktor, EZdrummer, 10 trks audio, 4 x ESX ...running on LogicX at 44.1 24bit. I do up the buffer when not recording.....
