  • Secure Digital Cards for Synchron Player Libraries and other wondering

    Hello,

Please need help, sorry if answers are available somewhere and I didn't retrieve them...

I just realize via DL Manager that the new SY libraries demand SSD’s for proper performance. I am disoriented since believed that my usual 2To USB 3.0 ext drive might be enough

I wonder whether this SD card might work fine or not (on Mac mini SD card port: speed 2,5GT/s)

On the other side, I cannot determine yet for sure if the Mac mini (Late 2014 model 7,1) SSD PCI slot (which now host an Apple 250Go drive) allows to add a further SSD or if the Apple drive should be replaced in order to have more data storage.

I neither can see if using 1To internal SSD PCI drive for everything (OS X, Apps and Libraries) would be more efficient than setting libraries on ext SSD via USB 3.0

    I thank you in advance,
    Best regards,
    Diego

  • Not even close.

That SD card has a max read speed of 90MB/s.

Current SSDs are 300MB/s to 500MB/s read speeds. You are better off with an external SSD connected by USB3. The Samsung T3 (an external SSD with a USB3.1 connector) on a normal USB3 port (not a USB3.1 which it can go faster on) can do 300MB/s read and write.

    thanks a lot ribeye

I just read now, I hve not been notified of your support

I opted for a WD Passport SSD 1To accessible via USB 3.0 ports of my mac mini late 2014

Don.t know if you're on PC or Mac, I realized that replacing the internal solid state drive (PCIe 2.0) or adding a further ssd onto the SATA tree (likely available inside the mac mini) eventually would not be faster than the USB 3.0

Referring to the SY Player libraries, do we have to format the ssd as HFS+ journaled or better as APFS which is optimized for solid-state drives?

APFS reads 4 options via Disc Utility on Mac OS X. Do I go for the 1st one (simply APFS)?

I will post this formatting question separately...
