  • Woodwinds vibrato

    Hello,

I'm not quite sure in which libraries are separate vibrato and non-vibrato patches. Maybe someone can help with the following questions. Example: flute

    1) Special Edition: I think I read somewhere that patches are vibrato only. Is this correct?

--> Maybe VSL could make such information more visible, especially for newer customers. Also the differences between the Special Editions and the Libraries in terms of velocity layers and so on.

    2) Standard/Extended Library: There are separate vibrato and non-vibrato sustains. What about the legatos? Are they vibrato only, too? Why aren't there also separate patches? I'm asking because for some (newer) instruments, e. g. the bassoon 2, there are separate vibrato and non-vibrato legato patches listed under sample content. As well as all the instruments in Brass I and II have these.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

Yes, all patches in the Special Editions are "vibrato only".

Legatos in our bigger VI Collections are also mostly available with vibrato, but of course you can use Slot Xfade to crossfade to no vibrato anytime.

  • Hello Paul,

thanks for the reply. But what does “mostly” mean?

For example, again, the flute. Is the legato in the bigger collection with vibrato only? Or are the different variations simply not listed under sample content.

  • Hello again,

"Mostly" means "for the majority, with a few exceptions". The Flute 1 is part of the majority.

  • Thanks, again. But I don't get it. :)

Majority is too vague, and which instruments are the exceptions? May I ask for a short legato patch overview of all the instruments in woodwinds I and II?

I'm mostly interested if there is a separated legato vibrato and legato non-vibrato patch to crossfade between. I'm considering to buy the bigger woodwind collections, so that's why I'm asking. This is a crucial decision point for me.

  • Hi PixelPoet,

The following woodwinds have legato_vib patches (I think they are all in extended version only):

    English horn I

Clarinet Bb II - this is a separate single instrument, not from the woods I or II (I love it, BTW).

    Oboe I (progressive vibrato)

    Piccolo flute ("lyrical" legato)

At least this is from what I'm seeing in the patch browser.

    All the best,

    Crusoe.

  • You could always request a pdf of the library's user manual which has detailed descriptions of each patch.  I think you have to go through VSL sales for that.

Incidentally, Some libraries have a progessive vibrato patch but I think those are in the extended collections.

  • Thanks to you both, I will try it with the manuals. Good idea! :)
