  • Upright bass

    Hi.

I'm playing with the upright bass on a fast tempo jazzy tune. In fact, it's cubase that is playing !

I want to trigger a down glissando, or slide aftera 1/8 note. When I edit my midi track to trigger the slide, I heard the slide between the 2 notes before the 2 note I want ! After 2 hours of search, tries, I don't know what to do. The only way I found to trigger the slide is to make the last note before the slide very short !

But I don't want that note to be so short, now there is a too long silence for the slide to trigger. I don't understand. I use to play basses with keyswitches since years but with other plugins than vip.

I'd like to know if there are some features, options I missed that would avoid me to trigger that damn slide without having to cut the note just before. Otherwise, that instrument becomes useless to me.

Many thanks for any info !

  • Hi, Sorry, I don't understand what you mean with: "I heard the slide between the 2 notes before the 2 note I want ! ". Please can you explain this? (I'm not a native english speaker)

Eh eh... I'm not either !

I made a little screen in order to be more clear. You see the note in the green ellipse, I'd like it to be much lo,nger but if I do so, the following articulation (a slide between the 2 next notes) will not be triggered or a slide between the green and the G2 short note (the fist in red ellipse) will be played !

So, I can't make the 1° note longer ! On the jpg, it works (the 2 red notes are slided) but impossible to make the 1° note longer ! 😕

It's a fast jazzy track ! But VIP seems to be able to play only slow classical lullaby ! 😛

  • Okay. That's more clear to me.
To begin with, I don't possess the upright bass neither cubase.
A few thoughts, that come in my mind, I hope one of them are helpful for you.
    - be sure that the cc, that triggers the slide is in time a little before the slide note. (It is possible, that you have to set off the quantization automation, I don't know how this works in cubase).

    - when this doesn't work there is a possibility to delay the release of the first note (with green ellipse). I show in the image how you can do that. What you have to do in this case is to make a new cell, in which you put the patch you want to use for the first note and then set the slider for the release delay as high as you need (the sliders I show in the image are coupled at one cell, so the other cells are not affected by the change you made. It is important that the right cell is selected when you make the change with the slider). And of course you have to adjust the keyswitches to play the right cell with that "green" note.

I hope that this helps. Good luck.

  • Yeah ! Many thanks for the advice ! I gonna try that asap ! Sorry for the reply delay... I'm not always at home, at the moment.

I'm sure there is a way to avoid my issue but vip is a bit confuse for me. Don't know why vienna makes so different application in comparaison with all other stuff.

    Thanks !

  • I get it ! You want the time release of the first note to be longer !? Indeed, it sounds as I wish but it's still impossible to have a longer note and trigger the slide articulation.

  • Nice to hear that you have the sound you want. As I said before, I don't have the upright bass, so I can't try how it should be possible to just make a long note, after that the slide and that it should work without the work around. Perhaps somebody else can chime in here to help?
