  • MIRPro inside VIPro?

    I am new to VSL.

So in VIpro I see that I can enable some built in simple reverb or MIRx reverb within the VIpro instrument itself.

What is the advantage or reason to do this inside VIPro?

I basically have MIRPro and VEP and I can setup VEP instances with MirPro and all that stuff, but it looks like I cannot use the MIR reverbs inside VIPro unless I get MIRx, is that true?  And if so, would there be any reason for doing this rather then using VEP and MIRPro to setup reverb appropriately?

  • Hi Dewdman42,

MIRx was designed to provide a simplified impulse reverberation solution inside the player, with fixed positions.

You get exactly the same functionality with the MIRx Mode in MIR PRO, and of course these settings will also be great as a starting point for mixing customizations.

  • Right I get all that. That’s why I bought MIR Pro. But can I use mirpro from directly inside vipro somehow?

  • Hi,

No, MIR PRO only works as a plug-in in an audio channel or within Vienna Ensemble/PRO.

  • so is there any reason anyone can think of why this would be an advantage for VIPro and MIRX rather then having bought MIrPro?  Is it only useful to use reverb inside ViPro when VEP is not available?

  • Hi,

MIRx is the small brother of MIR PRO, and the limited functionality makes it more affordable. If you are happy with the options you get with MIRx and don't need too much flexibility in your mixes, you will love it.

  • again I get that part, but I'm still wondering why I can't use MIRPRO inside VIPro...  I already bought MIRPro and glad I did for various reasons, I don't intend to also buy the "little brother" in addition, but I would like to understand the pros and cons of loading mirx into VIPro directly.

  • Hi,

I'm afraid I can't explain it in a better way, but maybe someone else wants to chime in?

  • you haven't explained it at all what I am asking, sorry Paul.  what is the advantage of using MIRX inside VIPro instead of outside in VEP?

  • If you have MIR Pro, why do you care about MIRx? It's for those who can't afford or don't need MIR Pro.

Why do you want it to run inside VI Pro? There's no advantage or reason to do that.

  • well that is what I'm asking, what advantage or disadvantage is there to having VSL's MIR reverb available directly inside VIPro.  MIRPro can't do it at all, I already understand that.  MIRX can.  In this particuliar case, this is something MIRX is better then MIRPRO, in that MIRPRO can't do it at all, but MIRX can.

Is there any real advantage to that which us MIRpro users are missing out on?  Are there any cases at all where this would be convenient?

But I guess one advantage would be, for example, the ability to create VIpro presets that have the whole sound, including reverb, available from the instrument without having to setup a more elaborate mixer channel strip inside VEP or a DAW channel that includes the MIR plugin.

  • The reasons are historical and practical.

Historical, because Vienna MIR was planned and developed long before Vienna Instruments software took form.

Practical, because you couldn't use MIR for anything else than Vienna Instruments if it would be integral part of them, and because the GUI's restrictions would be severe.

MIRx (the product) was a spin-off at a much later point, to supply MIR's sound for those VSL-users who are not inclined to change anything else than volume and wet/dry-ratio on a technical level. MIR Pro users won't miss anything due to the availability of the so-calles MIRx-mode.

There are no plans at the moment to combine Vienna Instruments and MIR Pro into one software product.

    Kind regards,
