  • Why use Ensemble rather than several instances of instruments

What is the benefit of using Vienna Ensemble rather than separate instances of Vienna Instruments?

I assumed that VE offers the opportunity of setting true stereo balancing (rather than just panning) as this doesn't seem possible from within Vienna Instr(pro) and it is perhaps easier and more memory efficient to layer multiple tracks using VE. However, I don't notice any difference in the sound field if I change the instrument position via Vienna Ensemble or via panning (as two separate tracks).

It is certainly easier to setup and manage separate instances of V Instr.

    I use Sonar Platinum.

  • It's less CPU intensive especially if you're loading things like MIR and other memory hog plug ins.

Another advantage is that you can build templates within VE so that you're not having to reinvent the wheel all the time like building the same string orchestra setup with panning, reverbs and plug ins again and again.  Subsequently, these templates will load much faster then individual VI instances.  In other words, it's a big time saver.

  • Thanks so much for getting back.

What you said does make sense.
