  • RME 9652 or MOTU LP32

    Hi there,

I've been running a dedicated Win 7 computer for the VSL orchestral Cube and several other VSL instruments. This machine sends audio signal out using an RME 9652's ADAT into a MOTU 1248.

Has anyone used a USB 2.0-based interface (such as the MOTU LP-32) with a large VSL ensemble? Are you getting any dropouts or clicks or pops? I've heard that the PCI bus is faster than USB 2.0, so that is a consideration. My 9652 is getting old and starting to have issues...

    Thanks!

    Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,

I use the Fireface UFX II and I'm happy with it.

Yes, there are faster things than USB 2.0, but for <=64 channels it has enough bandwidth.
It is far more important to have low latency. USB 2.0 has a low latency mode which most developers don't use. RME implements this mode in their hardware and therefor they have very low latencies.
I don't have any drop-outs with a buffer size of 32 if I am not using any plugins. But mostly I work with 64 or 128; the latency is still below 10ms and the CPU has much less load.

    Best, Ben
