  • How to orchestrate this for strings?

    Hi All.
Sometimes I come up with ideas I'm not able to deal with.
In this case, first two chords are the same Gm in a descending inversions sequence, then Bbmaj7 (see attachment), and so on.
If I score Violins in thirds, the middle Bb in VlnII becomes the higher note in VlnI… It works on a piano, but it seems wrong to me for a string ensemble.
    Any hint?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Fabio,

I don't exactly see where you're going to. In the classical writing tradition, it would be highly abnormal that the second violin plays above the first violin in a plain harmonic progression. On the other hand, if you would want to write in a more counterpoint style, there can be any movement by any voice if you would like, depending on the leading voice. I gues your sequence here is not your motif, but only an example?
