  • Difference between input and bus?

Aside from having certain settings definable upon initial selection, am I correct in the observation that inputs and busses in VE Pro (6) are exactly the same thing?  They look the same and can have the exact same settings...

  • An input is a bus; however a bus by the definition here is only something you can send signal to or be a channel another channel can reside in on its way out (for instance, I tend to take a delay channel, where instruments are sent to be effected by that, and place it in the master bus with the reverb; here as far as a stem goes that is one 'wet' 2-file). An Input can be taken from the output scheme of a multi-out instrument or take a send from Audio input as an FX channel in the DAW.

EG: from the VI Pro instrument, there are in all 4 stereo outs. Let's say you want one matrix to be EQ'd or what-have-you differently than the next matrix; you may assign them to different outputs and here VE Pro takes them as Input channels. Kontakt output config is 32 stereo or any combination amounting to 64 outs.  And in "Input" VE Pro sees what there is from the instrument, which is one of two options in right-click dropdown (other being the type for input from the DAW host). Etc.

  • so is that a yes?  lol

  • Bus channel in VE Pro is not capable of taking an input from instrument channel or input from DAW.

"a bus by the definition here is only..." and then I go into the things it isn't.

  • It most certainly is capable of that (taking an input from an instrument channel), which is why I posed my question.  Note that I am referring to VE Pro Server (v6).

  • No, Bus absolutely does not take an input from instrument channel or Audio Input from DAW.

    I'll show you:

  • See how with Insert Input there is an arrow and the choice of channel or input?
And the Channel menu shows instantiated instrument channels, while Input is a list of the preferred number of inputs (from Audio Input; also I should note that when this is used, to hear this bus  in a render means you do realtime export; it's essentially an external device.).

And see how Insert Bus has no arrow? It's just a bus. So it doesn't look like you know the difference.
It appeared you were asking a question about the difference.
    So there's the answer. Again.

  • I understand that there is a difference in the creation options, as you have clearly displayed (and as I clearly showed knowledge of in my first post).  However, once either is created and sits in your mixer, they are exactly the same in regards to functionality.  Have a look at my screenshot.  In it you will see a PLAY instrument I created, and then an Input and a Bus (which I titled so you can tell the difference).  Notice that the input and the bus have exactly the same settings (taking their input from the 2nd output of the PLAY instrument).  So it would seem to me, that regardless of whether I choose to insert an input or a bus, I get the same damn thing.  How am I wrong?
